Zumba fun at school fete

The Montgomery Primary Little and Junior Starz* put on a spectacular display of Zumba at the school's annual Summer Fete, which was enjoyed by both children and adults.

JM DanceFit Zumba Kids classes, which allow children to have fun while improving both their confidence and fitness levels, are held in the main school hall at Montgomery Primary.

New children are welcome to join the Tuesday afternoon termly classes which are available to those who attend the school.

More than half of us know someone with cancer

More than half (68%) of the people in Devon – an estimated 651,500 people – currently have, or have had, a family member or a close friend with cancer, reveals Macmillan Cancer Support today1. Earlier this year, Macmillan announced that there are currently 2.5 million people living with cancer in the UK, which is set to rise to 4 million by 20302.

Overall, most people in Devon (76%) know, or have known, someone with cancer – whether a colleague, acquaintance, family or friend.

Man dies after fall from window in Exeter

A 39-year old man has died following a fall from a flat window in Exeter on Friday 10th July.

Police attended St James Road, Exeter following concerns for a man in one of the properties.

Police remained outside the property and were able to engage in discussions with the man, who was communicating from the third floor flat window.

Whilst police were at the scene and in discussions with the man, it appears that he fell from the window of the flat and suffered a serious head injury.

Customer Service Centre celebrates 10 years

Exeter City Council's Customer Service Centre (CSC) celebrates its 10th Birthday on Saturday.

The 'one-stop shop' in Paris Street first opened its doors to the public on 11 July 2005.

Previously there were a number of departmental reception desks throughout the Civic Centre. The CSC brought those together and since opening, has seen more than 500,000 people come through its doors and dealt with over 1 million calls.

Exeter Cost Consultants, Haldons Ltd, handed-over a new purpose built, three-storey Doctors Surgery with a construction value of around £1.4m.

The new 826 sq. metres, purpose-built, state-of-the-art surgery located in Plymouth which meets the NHS’ latest clinical guidelines, was built by Design & Build contractor Dawnus Construction Holdings Limited of Topsham.

Exeter CAB launches ‘Click or Call’ service

Leading local advice charity Exeter Citizens Advice Bureau has announced the launch of a new ‘Click or Call’ advice and information service.

The charity is suggesting that clients with access to the internet first click the on-line advice and information resources and factsheets available at www.citizensadvice.org.uk

The website is available 24 hours a day. A pilot webchat service has also been launched as part of the new service, with plans for an email service also being developed.

Shortage of houses fuels higher prices in South West

House price growth increased again in the South West in June, pointing to renewed acceleration in house price inflation during the second half of the year, according to the latest RICS UK Residential Market Survey.

Police in Tiverton need the public’s help to identify two men they would like to speak to in connection with commercial burglaries in the town.

Two businesses on Angel Hill were broken into in the early hours of Monday 15 June, sometime before 8am.

The offenders are believed to have entered the premises by forcing their way in through the side doors.
