Devon-based charity Rainbow Living is looking for 5,000 people to take a #RainbowSelfie to help raise £15,000 towards buying a third Rainbow House and provide a home for a group of young disabled adults.

#RainbowSelfie is part of the charity’s #ThirdRainbowHouse campaign which launches today (Tuesday 28 July).

It’s easy to get involved – simply embrace the ‘rainbow’ theme, take your #RainbowSelfie, share on social media, and nominate 3 friends to do the same.

You can donate to the campaign by texting RNBW03 £3 to 70070 or online at https://campaign.justgiving.com/charity/rainbowliving/thirdrainbowhouse – all funds raised will directly help a group of young disabled adults to move out of the family home and into supported living in the community.

Ruth Airdrie from Rainbow Living says: “#RainbowSelfie is a fun way for people to help raise funds towards our third Rainbow house.  Our aim is to raise £15,000 so we would like to ask 5,000 people – which is just 1% of the Exeter and Heart of Devon population*! – to take part.

“Be as creative as you like!  You could dress in bright colours for the day, dye your hair, or create a rainbow look through face paint or make-up.

"You could wear a bright hat, jewellery or sunglasses, paint your nails in rainbow colours, make a rainbow cake, or create a rainbow plate of food.  Or, my personal favourite if you get lucky - a photo of yourself with a rainbow in the background!”

Rainbow Living is a small charity run solely by volunteers, but makes a real difference to the lives of adults with disabilities and their families.  The charity has already helped two groups of disabled adults move into Rainbow homes in Exeter and Torquay; so far £370,000 has been raised towards a third Rainbow house and the charity now needs your support to complete the last leg of their fundraising journey.

Ruth comments: “In the current housing environment many disabled tenants live with the fear of being evicted from their accommodation at Landlord’s whims, with devastating consequences. We offer a unique solution for secure tenancy accommodation.

"We work tirelessly to ensure that people with disability have the right to an influence over where and with whom they live, empowering them to progress into adulthood in the same way as their peers and making a home of their own.”
