Exeter ladies prepare double blow for cancer at Race for Life 10k

Hundreds of ladies are preparing to give cancer ‘double trouble’ at Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life by taking part in the 10k event at Westpoint Exeter this month.

Race for Life 10k will take place on Sunday, 26 July and over 600 determined ladies have already signed up to show the disease that hell hath no fury like a woman in pink.

Event organisers are calling on mothers, daughters, sisters, friends and workmates who want to take on the challenge to sign up as soon as possible.

Rural crime survey supports call for fair funding

Preliminary findings from the National Rural Crime Survey support calls for Fair Funding for Devon and Cornwall Police.

Although the full results are yet to be released, initial findings from the rural crime survey of over 17,000 people in England and Wales indicate that victims in rural areas have a lower perception of policing than the national average.

Tony Hogg, Police and Crime Commissioner for Devon and Cornwall said

Country parks receive Green Flag Awards

The Grand Western Canal Country Park and Stover County Park have today (Thursday 23 July) been named among the best green spaces in the UK.

Law could make Exeter’s food waste illegal

Exeter Green Party says that if new rules adopted by the European Parliament are agreed by the European Commission, sending food waste to the Exeter’s energy from waste plant could become illegal.

The Parliament last week voted to end the incineration of all recyclable and biodegradable waste. http://www.greens-efa.eu/circular-economy-14330.html

Currently, food waste in the city makes up around 35% of ‘black bin’ waste and is incinerated at the £46m Marsh Barton energy from waste plant site.

Police are appealing for the public’s help in trying to locate some distinctive items stolen from the Exmouth area.

Two rings and an ornament (pictured) were stolen during a burglary at a house in the St John’s Road area between Monday 29 June and Tuesday 7 July.

The items are described as a white gold ladies wedding ring with diamond cut effect, a ladies vintage Art Deco style gold band, and a wind-up ornament.
