Learn about brain injury at Sidmouth event

On Wednesday 13th July, local charity Headway Devon will be holding a brain injury information day at the Sidmouth Methodist Church on Sidmouth High Street.

Open from 10am-3pm, the event will offer information stands, resources and advice for anyone wishing to know more about acquired brain injury or the work of Headway Devon. All are welcome and attendees will also be able to enjoy a free cup of tea or coffee and complimentary biscuits.

Veteran Newsnight legend Jeremy Paxman is among a number of venerable figures to receive honorary awards at the University of Exeter’s graduation ceremony.

The University’s new Chancellor, Lord Myners of Truro, will be installed on Monday July 11, in the first of six days of ceremonies in Exeter and at the University’s Penryn Campus.

Clare Marx, President of the Royal College of Surgeons, and Sir Robert Francis QC, who oversaw the Francis Report into the Staffordshire Hospital scandal, will also receive honorary doctorates.

The inspirational achievements of exceptional students at Exeter College have been celebrated at the AS and BTEC Certificate Awards 2016.

New York Times Bestselling author Kathryn Aalto was guest speaker at the awards held at the college’s Centre for Creative Industries on Tuesday, 28th June.

More than 80 students, family, friends and staff attended the awards celebrating outstanding student contributions and success across a broad range of programmes.

Property ball raises £50,000 for local charities

Exeter’s renowned Property Ball returned to Dart’s Farm on Friday 1st July, raising £50,000 for local charities. There were 650 guests.

Complete with funfair rides, tepee, cocktail bar, steel band, sports cars and a speed boat, the Property Ball lived up to its name of entertaining guests from all walks of Exeter’s business community.

The event, sponsored by Eagle One, M J Stevens, Blue Cedar Homes and NatWest Bank began with a mouthwatering meal, followed by an auction and music by Risky Business.

Exeter and Falmouth Student Union's win NUS awards 2016.

Falmouth and Exeter student’s union won the Officer Team Award at the NUS awards 2016.

The ceremony was held on the 6 July at the Arena and Convention Centre in Liverpool. NUS received 295 nominations for the ten NUS awards.

The NUS judging panel said that the officer team at Falmouth and Exeter had worked incredibly hard over this past year, and their decisions and actions are based on what is best for students and the union.

Seaton Jurassic welcomes 20,000th visitor

A new East Devon attraction has attracted its 20,000th visitor as it prepares for a busy summer season.

Seaton Jurassic was only opened in early April but its mix of quirky displays and interactive exhibits aimed at families already seems to be a hit. Vodafone calls out to rural community centres

Vodafone, the mobile network company, is reaching out to the South West to apply for their new programme.

Rural community centres such as pubs, shops, and village halls are being encouraged to apply for Vodafone’s new programme, Community Indoor Sure Signal, if they have unreliable mobile coverage.

The programme will give the centre an Open Sure Signal box which will bring Vodafone indoor 3G mobile coverage to create a rural community hotspot.
