Feast of Fiddles was formed in 1994 as a one-off concert ensemble as Hugh Crabtree thought it would be a good idea and Mike Sanderson of Nettlebed Folk Club thought so too!

Fast forward and in 2017 their sixth studio album entitled Sleight of Elbow will be released. The new album Sleight of Elbow is something of a departure for the band as it features a lot of original compositions from within the band and only a single traditional tune.

Stage set for brand new interactive theatre performance

The stage is set for children and adults alike to be given a fascinating insight into the brain and epilepsy, thanks to a brand new interactive theatre show.

The typically contrasting spheres of drama and science will come together for an exhilarating, hands-on performance at Exeter’s Northcott Theatre on Thursday, March 9th.

The show, entitled “Beyond My Control”, is the brainchild of the Northcott’s Artistic Director Paul Jepson and mathematicians Professor John Terry and Dr Wessel Woldman from the Living Systems Institute of the University of Exeter.

Money worries loom large in Exeter

Leading local advice charity, Citizens Advice Exeter, has released the results from its fourth economic well-being survey which ran in January.

Citizens Advice Exeter Chief Executive Steve Barriball said: “A key finding is that just over half of those who responded to the survey, some 51%, said that they were worried about their financial position. However, this is down from 56% a year ago. Also, income levels seem to have stabilised, with 59% of those responding saying their income levels remained the same.

Staff give RD&E glowing report in NHS survey

Staff at the RD&E have given the Trust a glowing report in the 2016 NHS staff survey released yesterday (7 March 2017).

Staff highly recommend the Trust as a place to work and to receive treatment placing it in the top 20% of Acute Trusts nationally.

In addition, the survey findings place the RD&E in the top 20% of hospitals nationally for half of the key findings, including staff involvement in improvements at work, effective team working and placing the care of patients as the organisation's top priority.

An ambitious 18-year-old from Cullompton, is celebrating ahead of National Apprenticeship Week (6-10 March 2017), after securing a coveted place on an in-demand apprenticeship programme with national optician Vision Express. South West Water has been named as the main supporter of the Moor Otters public arts initiative created by Dartmoor National Park.

The campaign aims to raise £100,000 to support projects to conserve and enhance Dartmoor’s wildlife, landscape and improve accessibility for everyone to the Moor. From 1st June 2017, 100 life-size otter sculptures will be displayed along a trail in accessible public areas around Dartmoor and the neighbouring gateway towns.

Exeter Quay footbridge closed for repairs following safety concerns

Exeter City Council has closed a footbridge that straddles a leat off the River Exe at Exeter’s Quayside because of safety concerns.

An inspection found that repairs need to be carried out to the Mallison footbridge. A diversion has been set up for users of the footbridge and the Council has apologised for any inconvenience caused by the closure.

The footbridge, which links one side of the Quay behind Exeter Antiques Centre on the Quay to the footpath leading up to bridge across the River Exe, will now be out of operation for a number of weeks while repairs are carried out...

GB Davis Cup captain trains local coaches for free Tennis for Kids

GB Davis Cup captain Leon Smith helped lead local coaches at the Tennis for Kids Coach Training Day at Exeter Tennis Centre last week.

Back for a second year following a successful roll out in 2016, Tennis for Kids is a national initiative devised by the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) to get 20,000 children aged 5 to 8 playing tennis for the first time and, best of all, for free.

Around 40 coaches gathered at Exeter Tennis Centre to be put through their paces in the on-court training session and to pick up resources to help them manage their Tennis for Kids courses.
