5th Okehampton Food and Music Festival

The 5th Okehampton Food and Music Festival will take place on Saturday 24 June.

Building on the success of previous years, the 2017 Festival will provide even more music, a wide range of foods and special events and a fun evening of music.

A highlight of the day will be recipe demonstrations by award-winning chef, Damian Wawrzyniak. This will take place in The Charter Hall, Market Street.

Okehampton’s streets will be filled with food and drink vendors, street-food stalls and musicians.

Every Spring and Autumn Freemasons from all around Devon meet to support local organisations and charities who are require financial assistance, amongst those included are Schools, Youth Centres and locally based charities including Hospices, Hospital Services and Cancer Charities.

BRG announce financial figures

Berry Recruitment Group (BRG) has announced an increased turnover of £62m for 2016 – a figure that has more than doubled in the last five years. The national recruiter showed a gross profit of nearly £13m with earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) of £1.9m. The net cash flow generated from operations was in excess of £2.3m in the year. WESC Foundation is a charity based near Exeter which provides specialist education, care, and therapy to children and young people with sight loss and complex needs. The Summer Fete is a fundraiser and will feature classic fete stalls on our track field (like the tombola, bottle stall, raffle, and coconut shy), face painting, live music in the marquee, dance performances, cream teas and homemade cakes, and lots of fun and games for all ages. Everyone is welcome!

St Thomas Masons donate Spirometer to Bolham Ward

Patients on Bolham Ward at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital are set to benefit from a new mobile machine to measure lung function thanks to a £500 donation by the St Thomas Masonic Lodge.

The Lodge made the donation after being made aware of the efforts of Barbara and David Tilbury, who have been fundraising for the Bolham Ward Trust Fund over the last year in memory of their son Patrick who sadly passed away in 2016.

Exmouth kitesurfer, Tom Bridge (16) took the top spot at the British Kitesurfing Championships on Hayling Island last weekend, 10th and 11th June.

The event, which took place during the famous Virgin Kitesurfing Armada festival, saw some of the UK's top kitesurfers take to the water in the grueling two day long competition.

Exeter celebrates Armed Forces Day on Saturday (17 June) with a parade through the city centre and a military village on the Cathedral Green.

Armed Forces Day is a chance to show support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community; from currently serving troops to Service families, veterans and cadets.

This week, 12-18 June, it’s Carers Week. The annual campaign aims to raise awareness of the challenges carers face and recognises the contribution carers make to families and communities throughout the UK.
