Exeter Northcott Theatre is delighted to announce that the highly acclaimed and much loved actress Dame Judi Dench has accepted to be Patron for its 50th anniversary year, 2017-2018.

Dame Judi is admired around the world for a 60 year career of phenomenal performances on both stage and screen. She has won an Academy Award, ten BAFTA Awards and six Laurence Olivier Awards. In recognition of her many achievements, she received an OBE in 1970, became a DBE in 1988, and in 2005 was awarded a Companion of Honour.

£2m for University of Exeter to revolutionise dementia care research

Alzheimer’s Society has announced (Tuesday 20 June) that it has committed almost £2million to the University of Exeter, as part of its biggest-ever single investment in dementia care research.

The research grant will be invested over five years and will enable expert researchers at the University of Exeter to create a ‘Centre of Excellence’. The Centre will focus on improving quality of life for people with dementia and boost the number of researchers working in the dementia care field.

Glastonbury festivalgoers can look forward to a heady mix of Ed Sheeran, Foo Fighters, Katy Perry – and a lesson on climate change from a top scientist.

The Freemasons are holding an unprecedented public vote to decide how to spend a special three million pounds of charity funding as part of their 300th anniversary celebrations this year. Seaton Jurassic, East Devon District Council’s flagship visitor attraction, has scooped a major South West award for the best leisure and hospitality project of the year.

Maynard robotics team wins UK’s only trophy at Denmark Championships

“It was thoroughly well deserved,” said the Maynard School’s Head of Computing, Laura Burt, of the robotics team winning the UK’s only trophy at the FIRST LEGO League Open European Championship in Aarhus, Denmark over the weekend of 27-28 May 2017.

Heatwave advice issued as temperatures soar

Public Health leaders are offering advice on how to beat the heat, in the wake of news today of a continued heat wave.

The Met Office has forecast that the hot weather will now continue until Thursday and Public Health England South West is issuing heatwave advice to local authorities across the peninsula.
