Expanding Exeter's green lungs

Exeter’s much-loved green spaces have increased in size over recent months, with the City Council buying up 13 acres of privately owned land for the people of Exeter to enjoy for recreational purposes.

“We love green spaces,” said Cllr David Harvey, Lead Councillor for Place, “and we’re really keen to open them up for public access.”

In the last 18 months, the City Council has acquired a total of 13 acres (3.3 hectares) of land within its valley parks to allow people to enjoy Exeter’s green spaces.

Busiest year ever for Devon’s Air Ambulances

This week Devon Air Ambulance have confirmed that 2018 was the busiest year in its 27 years of operation, having assisted 1,109 patients, an increase of 12% from the previous year.

Nigel Hare, Operations Director for Devon Air Ambulance said, “We knew we had been busier, and in fact have helped an additional 119 patients in 2018.”

He added “Trauma related incidents, for example, road traffic collisions and accidental injuriesequated to 49% of the patients we responded to, with the remaining 51% being medical emergencies; e.g. heart attacks or breathing problems. We are here...

Frequent callers to 999 Control hub put strain on ambulance service

Paramedics at South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) are reminding people to only call 999 in an emergency and to use other more appropriate services for less urgent conditions.

It is estimated that one in ten calls into the ambulance service are from ‘frequent callers’ taking up over 200 hours a day of vital emergency team’s time - putting a huge strain on the Trust.

TEDxExeter 2019 speakers revealed

An exciting line-up of speakers has been revealed for this year’s eagerly anticipated TEDxExeter event.

The city’s eighth annual ideas festival takes place on Friday, April 5, at the Exeter Northcott Theatre.
