Work to start on Moor Lane roundabout upgrade

The first phase of a scheme to upgrade Moor Lane roundabout in Exeter will start next week (Monday 13 January).

The approach to the roundabout, from the direction of Sowton Industrial Estate, is being widened to create extra capacity with the addition of a fourth lane.

In order to provide the required space, earthwork and vegetation clearance on the embankment next to the road will need to be carried out, as well as the diversion of utility services.

This work will initially get underway during the daytime, starting on Monday (13 January).

More than 11 million 2018/19 tax returns are due back with HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) by the end of January. Around 54% of taxpayers have already filed their returns with more than 5.6 million of those completed online (89% of the total returns filed).

Angela MacDonald, HMRC’s Director General for Customer Services, said: “The Self Assessment deadline on 31 January is fast approaching so customers have just under a month left to file their tax returns online to avoid any unnecessary penalties. Exeter comes 33rd of all UK areas for admitting tax avoidance

Exeter comes in at number 33 in list of over 100 UK areas for admitting underpaid tax from offshore interests last year*, reveals new research from UHY Hacker Young, the national accountancy group.

In Exeter, there were 14 cases of disclosures of tax avoidance per 100,000 population. The highest number of disclosures were in Slough (47), closely followed by London (39). The UK average was 17.
