Police appeal for information following a burglary

An isolated property in Cove, near Tiverton, was entered between Midday on Tuesday 27th November and 5.00pm on Wednesday 28th November by smashing a kitchen window. Once inside, following an untidy search, several items were stolen, many of sentimental value.

The stolen items included a pair of silver fighting cocks that are about 6in to 8in in height. These were a present to celebrate the victim’s 25th wedding anniversary.

A garrad gent’s wrist was also stolen which was a retirement present. It was inscribed; ‘Presented to Eric Hayes in appreciation of 35...

Local Police officers are recognised for bravery

Police officers from around the county have been awarded for their individual acts of bravery and for displaying exemplary acts of frontline policing.

The awards were presented by Superintendent Chris Eastwood, police commander for the areas of Exeter, East and Mid Devon.

Supt Eastwood said, “These awards recognise the excellent work that goes on, both on the frontline and behind the scenes, to keep the areas of Exeter, East and Mid Devon safe. I am proud to be the commander of such a professional and hard working team of officers”.

Police launch Christmas campaign to cut down drink driving

Devon and Cornwall Police are releasing dramatic footage of a drink-fuelled collision as part of the Force‘s annual drink drive Christmas campaign.

The campaign, which will run throughout December, is aimed at highlighting the damage that can be caused by drink driving and reducing the number of people killed or seriously injured on our roads.

Brave Exeter youngster Ruby is a Little Star

An Exeter youngster who has been treated for cancer had her courage recognised with a special award presented to her this week.

Alison Birkett at Cancer Research UK presented Ruby Connar, 8, from Longdown in Exeter with her special star-shaped trophy for the bravery she has shown during her cancer treatment.

Ruby has been undergoing chemotherapy treatment for acute lymphoblastic leukaemia - cancer of the white blood cells - and lost all her hair during intensive chemotherapy treatment earlier this year.

Devon’s Humanists have warned schools and parents of the American evangelical group behind the Samaritan’s Purse shoe-box initiative.

Review concludes that care home fee levels for 2012/13 are fair

Devon County Council has today published an extended impact assessment into its decision on care home fees for 2012/13, in response to a High Court ruling that it hadn't given sufficient consideration to equalities.

Modern Diner to launch first restaurant in Exeter

Modern Diners Ltd is to launch its first restaurant, RUBY, in Exeter after securing the lease of a central city location.

The freehold of the Grade II Listed property at 74 Queen Street was sold to its current owners in early 2012 and Christie + Co, which completed the sale, was recently appointed to find a lessee.

Council launches Exeter Housing Charity of the Year Award

To show appreciation for the exceptional work carried out by charities and voluntary organisations around the City, Exeter City Council is launching the Exeter Housing Charity of the Year Award. Prize money of £500 will be offered as part of the award to enable the organisation to continue with their good work. A trophy will be presented to the winner at the Housing Strategy Event being held at the Royal Albert Memorial Museum in January 2013.
