Network Rail are currently reporting severe disruptions to rail services, saying it could be days before services are back to normal again.

First Great Western are reporting that their London Paddington to Plymouth service is disrupted between London Paddington and Plymouth, between Bristol Temple Meads and Plymouth and between Westbury and Plymouth due to flooding at Tiverton Parkway. Tickets being accepted on South West Trains and local bus services.

Currently Stagecoach is reporting disruptions on the following services:

Service 57 Cannot currently serve Topsham therefore it is diverting via Clyst st Mary to Sandy Gate Roundabout and onto the by-pass to Countess Wear Roundabout and then into Exeter. Passengers wishing to travel to Topsham will need to transfer onto Service T at Countess Wear roundabout.

Service 1 Going direct from Pinhoe to Cullompton along the M5, then can serve Willand, Halberton & Uffculme but cannot currently serve either Bradninch or Sampford Peverall

Drinkers in Devon are being encouraged to make a pledge to give up alcohol for a month in January, as part of the national Alcohol Awareness week (19th-25th November).

Devon County Council and NHS Devon have given their support to the campaign, being run by Alcohol Concern, which this year focuses on the theme: "it’s time to talk about drinking". Unsettled weather continues in the South West with further bands of heavy rain and strong winds possibly leading to further flooding over the next four days, the Environment Agency warned today.

Heavy rain falling on already saturated ground could lead to river flooding, and strong winds could worsen surface water flooding, as wind-blown leaves and debris block water drainage. It is possible that up to 60 mm could fall on top of the rain that has fallen over the last few days.

Residents in Halberton are being asked to be aware of the potential risk of flooding this afternoon and tomorrow.

The Grand Western Canal has breached some parts of its banks and is discharging water to the north side of the canal.

Whilst this does not pose an immediate threat, further rainfall tomorrow might make the situation worse.

Proposals to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists in the Newtown area of Exeter are being announced by Devon County Council.

Local residents are invited to comment on the draft plans at a consultation event on Thursday 29th November, at the Pyramids Leisure Centre on Heavitree Road.

Improvements include new traffic signals at the Pyramids junction on Heavitree Road and relocating the existing pedestrian crossing to make it safer to cross.

600 elderly people in Devon are at risk of dying as a result of fuel poverty this winter. And that's not all, for every additional winter death, there are an estimated eight admissions to hospital, 32 attendances at outpatient care and 30 social service calls. That's 4,800 hospital admissions, 19,200 outpatients and 18,000 social service calls in Devon each year.
