Body identified after six-year search

The body of a man found in a clay pit in Cornwall has been identified as that of man missing since 2007.

Mr Nicolas Prouse was reported missing from his home in St Dennis, Cornwall, on 30 November 2007. An extensive missing person enquiry was undertaken at the time but he was never located. No reason for his disappearance was ever established.

A member of the public contacted the police on 13 April 2014 after seeing the body of a man below the water line at Trelavour Pit in St Dennis.

The death has been treated as unexplained while police enquiries continue....

Blind fundraiser takes on 100km challenge

Tricia Sail, 40, from Exeter, will be going that extra mile to raise funds for Fight for Sight, a charity close to her heart. On 24 May, Tricia, who was diagnosed with Uveitis in 2013, will be walking 100km from London to Brighton with friends for the main UK's charity that funds pioneering eye research to prevent sight loss and treat eye disease. The challenge will be extremely difficult as Tricia has lost the sight in her right eye and only has 20 per cent vision in her left. Tricia's sight is affected by the time of day, leaving her unable to see anything at all at night. It’s unknown...

Motorcyclist dies in A35 collision

A motorcyclist has died after being involved in a collision with a milk tanker on the A35 near Honiton.

The accident happened yesterday (Sunday) about one mile from Honiton on the Axminster Road shortly after 3.45pm.

The 49-year-old male motorcyclist from Honiton, who was riding a 750cc Kawasaki motorcycle, was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin for have been informed.

The road was closed for over seven hours while an investigation of the scene took place and the vehicles were recovered. The tanker containing milk had to be pumped out before it could be...

Exeter dance teacher to meet one of her ballet idols

Ava Barron Thomas who runs her babyballet school in Exeter is to meet national ballet treasure, Wayne Sleep, OBE.

At only 5’2in Sleep is famous for being the shortest male dancer ever admitted into the Royal Ballet School. He has performed with everyone from Nureyev to Princess Diana and earlier this year won public acclaim for turning non-professional, largely overweight amateurs into dancers for a Channel 4 documentary, ‘Big Ballet’.

Sleep is the guest speaker at babyballet’s annual conference on Saturday, May 31 at babyballet’s Head Office in Halifax, West Yorkshire....

Exeter College lecturer is a top teacher

A lecturer from Exeter College has been recognised as one of the nation’s top teachers today, after winning a national award. Andy Waite, who teaches on the Travel and Tourism course at Exeter College, was chosen out of more than 20,000 nominations to pick up a Silver Teaching Award Winner in the FE Lecturer of the Year category. Beautiful weekend weather ahead

The recent good weather is set to continue this weekend as forecasters predict temperatures to reach 20C across Devon. Met Office forecasters say that the sunny weather is expected to last across the weekend and carry through into next week. Today (Saturday) patches of cloud will accompany the sun and are expected to clear by the early evening. Sunday will be cloudier than Saturday but again temperatures will remain high throughout the day. Monday sees temprtetures remain high but also brings a chance of showers in the afternoon. Devon launches new reuse scheme

Devon County Council has signed up to a new reuse system that will enable them to use surplus resources such as office furniture and equipment more efficiently and track the significant savings on avoided purchasing and waste disposal costs.

The County Council is implementing a new web based system called WARPit which allows organisations to redistribute (give, loan or share) resources (such as tables & chairs) legally and conveniently within their own organisation and with agreed partners.

Iconic album covers that have been given a new spin by internationally acclaimed graffiti artist Temper are on display at Castle Galleries, Exeter this weekend.
