Leading South West building services engineering company EX2 Group has welcomed three new apprentices this week, as they begin their professional training in Electrical Installation with Exeter College.

Christian, Alfie, and Harvey were welcomed to the Exeter offices by James Rayner (right), Project Manager. The apprentices will combine on-site experience with classroom learning as they work towards their Level 3 Electrical Installation qualifications. Exeter researcher elected Fellow of Royal Society

A leading University of Exeter climate scientist has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Society.

Professor Pierre Friedlingstein leads the Global Carbon Budget and has contributed to Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reports.

He studies the terrestrial biosphere's response to climate change, and had made multiple key contributions to our understanding in this vital field.

The Royal Society is a Fellowship of many of leading scientists, and is the oldest scientific academy in continuous existence.

Devon and Cornwall receive £1.8m funding boost to support thousands of people into skilled jobs

Devon County Council and Cornwall Council have been awarded £1.8 million funding from the Department for Education’s National Skills Fund to run a third year of Skills Bootcamps .

The Train4Tomorrow Skills Bootcamps are flexible courses lasting up to 16 weeks, that offer adults the opportunity to retrain into in-demand job roles in emerging and growth sectors. The bootcamps are designed alongside employers, to ensure people are developing industry skills that meet current recruitment needs, with learners guaranteed an interview at the end of their training.

Devonshire Homes marks 30th anniversary with new charity partnership

Independent West Country housebuilder Devonshire Homes has marked its 30th anniversary by announcing two new charity partners for 2022/2023.

Drivers advised to plan journeys ahead of A303 closure for bridge lift

The A303 will be fully closed between the Hazlegrove and Podimore roundabouts in Somerset this weekend (13-16 May) as a new temporary bridge is lifted into place at Steart Hill.

A 200-tonne crane will be used to lift a new bridge into place as part of work to ensure construction traffic remains off the main road and has minimal impact for road users and residents.

The temporary bridge will be used to transport earth from one side of the site to the other, without disrupting motorists on the A303 itself.

Thousands of people have lined the centre of Exeter to congratulate the city’s football club on their promotion winning season.

The team finished as League Two runners-up to ensure promotion to League One – the third tier of English football – for the first time since 2012.

Foot Anstey LLP has partnered with Bristol-based charity Empire Fighting Chance to donate 70 laptops to five charities based near its offices across the South and South West.

The laptops will help reduce the digital divide that impacts many communities. In 2021, Ofcom reported that one in five children who had been home-schooling did not have access to an appropriate device for their schoolwork all the time1. The laptop donation will help support those without digital access, which is vital for education, work and personal development.

Consultation on Clyst Valley Trail proposals

Ambitious proposals for a Clyst Valley Trail route between West Clyst and Topsham are the subject of a public consultation which has launched today (Monday 9 May).

Devon County Council and East Devon District Council are in the early stages of designing the multi-use route, which will connect Exeter with nearby towns and villages in East Devon.
