The Jolly Good Jaunt on Sunday 29th October will again give walkers the opportunity to take part and raise vital funds for local charity Hospiscare.

The continued success of the Jolly Good Jaunt owes much to the generous support of local businesses and groups including the Deer Park County House Hotel for the splendid venue, the Honiton Agricultural Association for the use of their showground, Denhay Farms, Devon Hog Roast & Tesco`s Honiton for the delicious lunch. Go Outdoors in Exeter are kindly allowing a 10% discount to walkers who produce their registration letter....

Lack of brisk walking puts Devon adults at risk

Findings from Public Health England (PHE) warn that thousands of adults aged 40-60 living in Devon are putting their health at risk by not managing a brisk ten minute walk each month.

As part of their new One You physical activity campaign, Public Health England have launched their new free Active 10 app encouraging adults to take one brisk ten minute walk a day. According to PHE research, this reduces the risk of early death by 15%, and contributes to their wider physical activity guidance of 150 minutes of moderate-vigorous exercise each week.

Call for people in Devon to Walk All Over Cancer

PEOPLE across Devon are being invited to take on Cancer Research UK’s latest fundraising challenge, Walk All Over Cancer, to help beat cancer sooner.

The charity is calling on men and women to sign up now to walk 10,000 steps every day throughout the month of June and raise money through sponsorship.

Based on the average person’s strides, 10,000 steps equates to approximately five miles or eight kilometres per day, and adopting small lifestyle changes can go a long way in making the goal feel achievable.

Walking and cycling trail to launch in Cranbrook

A walking and cycling trail is being launched in Cranbrook next month (January) to help local residents explore the area.

The “Discover Cranbrook: The Long Orchard Trail” is being established by Devon County Council, East Devon District Council, Cranbrook Town Council and Cranbrook New Community Partners Consortium to encourage people to get active and find out what’s on their doorstep.

Starting at the entrance of the Country Park at Long Orchard, the trail includes five posts which feature different rubbings – four around the park and a fifth at Cranbrook Train Station....

Community Treasure Hunt

A walking treasure hunt and barbecue, to raise funds for new gymnastics equipment for Honiton Gymnastics Club, is taking place at Honiton Rugby Club on Saturday 21 May - and everyone is welcome. Starting at 1pm, the fun afternoon for all the family - which has been organised by the club's Supporters Association. The Treasure Hunt is open to teams of between one and six.
