Value of tourism in Teignbridge increases to £262m

New figures released by Visit South Devon reveal that the value of tourism to Teignbridge is rising. In 2015 alone, tourism contributed £9.8 million more to the local economy than it did in 2014, bringing the total amount brought in to Teignbridge by tourism to £262 million.

The figures come from an annual report provided to Visit South Devon and the Devon Tourism Partnership, which analyses trends in tourism year-on-year. Exeter wins recognition at awards ceremonies

Exeter has won recognition at a number of influential awards ceremonies.

Local authorities Exeter City Council and Teignbridge District Council were singled out for their role in putting on the highly successful BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend at Powderham Castle.

Working in partnership, the two councils won the Tourism Event of the Year Award at the English Riviera and South Devon Tourism and Hospitality Awards.

Fifty thousand people attended the Big Weekend at the end of May, witnessing some of the best bands in the business, including Coldplay and Mumford and Sons....

Visit South Devon and Heart of Devon to merge

Visit South Devon and Heart of Devon have today announced that they will be merging to create a new super Area Tourism Partnership (ATP).

Economies of scale resulting from the merger will give the expanded Area Tourism Partnership a larger overall marketing budget, which will be used to increase the number of day visits, short breaks, longer holidays and business trips to Mid Devon, East Devon, Exeter and its city surrounds, Teignbridge and South Hams.

UKinbound has announced that Plymouth, Britain’s Ocean City, will host for the first time, next year’s milestone 40thAnniversary Annual Convention, which will take place from 08-10 February 2017. As part of UKinbound’s ongoing dedication to promote driving tourism outside of London and across the UK, the trade association has picked Plymouth to host 2017’s ceremonial Annual Convention, welcoming over 250 tourism representatives over two days. The pretty South Devon coastal town of Dawlish is readying itself for walkers of all ages and abilities as its inaugural walking festival gets ready to ramble from the start of April.

Discounts for diners using Avocet Line

Gastropubs along the Avocet Line from Exeter to Exmouth are offering discounts to diners who travel there by train. Rail passengers can get 10% off their food bill at selected pubs when they show the train ticket for their journey. The discounts will run until the end of March, excluding Valentine’s weekend, 13th and 14th February, and Easter weekend 25th-28th March. All are close to stations on the Avocet Line.

30 November 2015. Rydon Farm Bed and Breakfast in Woodbury, near Exeter, was delighted to receive a Gold Award at the Devon Tourism Awards held at The Holiday Inn, Plymouth on 26 November.
