£207,220 boost for disability sport in Devon

Active Devon has been awarded a grant of £207,220 from Sport England to develop inclusive sporting opportunities for disabled people.

The Inclusive Sport programme is designed to increase the number of young people (aged 14 plus) and adults regularly playing sport as part of Sport England’s wider commitment to increasing regular sport participation by disabled people.

Weir wows Foundation dinner crowd

The coffers of the Exeter Foundation have again been boosted by almost £2,000 following the success of the charity’s latest Sportsman’s Dinner held at Sandy Park last week (20 March).

Star attraction for the night was former Scotland and British Lions star Doddie Weir, who entertained the audience of nearly 200 people with a number of anecdotes from his playing days, as well as further amusing stories about his life away from the game.

Damian Welch says it’s vital he and his Exeter Chiefs team-mates are “on their game” when they play host to Gloucester in the Aviva Premiership tomorrow (3pm).

Talbot just misses out on medal at National Indoor Championships

Exeter Harriers 15 year old Sam Talbot narrowly missed out on a medal at the National Indoor Championships at Sheffield. Talbot, now competing in the U17 age group, will this year be up against athletes a year older than himself. He entered three events, and was surprised to qualify for the semi finals of the 60m sprint, in which he came sixth with 7.31 having taken third place in his heat with 7.31. Tuesday 18 February will be a big day for CEDA, Exeter's local charity providing services for disabled people.

From 11am until 2pm the organisation will be showing off the achievements of its users from the past year along with giving all visitors to their BIG Challenge event the chance to try something different. Thomas Waldrom says he is “excited” by the challenge that lies ahead after he today sealed a move to the Exeter Chiefs from Aviva Premiership rivals Leicester Tigers.

Six students from Exeter Royal Academy for Deaf Education will be getting involved in the “Get Set to Make a Change” initiative managed by the British Olympic Association and the British Paralympic Association.
