Exeter Eagles see no post-Olympic progress

One of Exeter's only basketball teams have not been wallowing in a pool of post-Olympic feelgood factor as some other sports have.

We found out that their funding and indeed participating players had seen no increase so far this year.

However Des Kumar, who founded the Eagles 14 years ago, says the sport is popular in the city:

"The other sports are used to receiving a lot of money. We're not used to receiving much money but there's a huge demand for basketball."

Sandy Park development plans approved by ECC

Exeter City Council last night voted unanimously in favour of the plans put forward to develop Sandy Park, the home of the Exeter Chiefs Rugby club. The Premiership side submitted ambitious plans earlier this year that would see the stadium's capacity increase from 10,750 to 20,600 and the club's conference and banqueting facilities also expanded.

Chiefs Chairman Tony Rowe said "We built Sandy Park with a view to getting into the Premiership.

He added: "We are not intending to go back to the Championship so we are looking at the future of our sport and where we want to go...

Devon Lifesavers aiming to be on top of the world

Two members of Dawlish Warren Lifesaving Club are flying out to Adelaide in Australia this week to take part in the World Lifesaving Championships.

Rescue 2012 will involve over 3000 competitors from all over the world, competing in the pool, beach and ocean events. All competitors are members of voluntary lifesaving clubs. Clare Frank and Neil Johnson compete in the Masters competition, which is for the over 30’s.

£1.1 Million Lottery boost for College Sport in the SW

The students of Exeter College and indeed across the South West can look forward to improved sporting opportunities thanks to new National Lottery funding from Sport England. Exeter Chiefs centre Will Rigg has extended his stay at Sandy Park as he signs a new Chiefs contract.
