Over 60 London 2012 sports volunteers came together at a Christmas Party organised by Active Devon, at Sandy Park Exeter last week.

The party, for Devon Games Makers, Torch Bearers and Young Ambassadors, featured the opportunity to ask Olympic athlete and Torch Bearer Gorgs Geikie about her experiences at the Games and also to hear from Young Ambassadors from St Luke’s Science and Sports College about their experiences volunteering in the Olympic Garden.

Gorgs brought along her Olympic Torch and kindly donated her own Torch Bearers shirt which she had signed as a raffle...

Chiefs claim maiden Heineken Cup victory over the Scarlets

The European escapades of the Exeter Chiefs hit new heights in Wales as Rob Baxter’s side claimed their maiden Heineken Cup victory against the Scarlets.

Full-time Score: Scarlets: 16 / Chiefs: 22.

Haydn Thomas’ early try, alongside a 17-point haul from fly-half Gareth Steenson, ensured another piece of history for the Devon club, who are clearly relishing dining at the top table with the elite of the European game.

The Scarlets countered with a penalty try and kicks from Rhys Priestland and Aled Thomas, but it was never enough in a hard-fought encounter at the Parc...

One third of the way through your season and you are probably bored of your warm up. Don't worry: only another 6 months to go!

When working with athletes I stress the importance of the warm up as something to get better at, not something to get through. I use 4-5 different warm up themes, and add smaller variations as the season goes on.

Exeter Eagles see no post-Olympic progress

By Ian Bond

One of Exeter's only basketball teams have not been wallowing in a pool of post-Olympic feelgood factor as some other sports have.

We found out that their funding and indeed participating players had seen no increase so far this year.

However Des Kumar, who founded the Eagles 14 years ago, says the sport is popular in the city:

"The other sports are used to receiving a lot of money. We're not used to receiving much money but there's a huge demand for basketball."

There is also a big crossover in the...

Chiefs Chairman Tony Rowe said "We built Sandy Park with a view to getting into the Premiership.

He added: "We are not intending to go back to the Championship so we are looking at the future of our sport and where we want to go...
