Two members of Dawlish Warren Lifesaving Club are flying out to Adelaide in Australia this week to take part in the World Lifesaving Championships.

Rescue 2012 will involve over 3000 competitors from all over the world, competing in the pool, beach and ocean events. All competitors are members of voluntary lifesaving clubs. Clare Frank and Neil Johnson compete in the Masters competition, which is for the over 30’s.

This is the 10th World Championships the couple have taken part in: "The World Championships is the ultimate stage on which to demonstrate the lifesaving skills which would be used in real life rescues while on voluntary patrols" says Clare "You are competing against amazing all-round athletes, who all come from clubs who train lifeguards and educate the public about water safety; because each year approximately 1.2 million people drown."

If you fancy giving this demanding, but varied sport a go, then Dawlish Warren are always looking to recruit new members.
