Celebrate Britain’s greatest Bard at Powderham Castle

To honour the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare, The Festival Players Theatre Company is bringing one of the Bard’s most famous plays, Hamlet, to Powderham Castle on Wednesday 17 August.

Thought to have been first performed in 1600, Hamlet is considered the greatest tragedy in the English language. Powderham Castle is gearing up for an exciting, action-packed summer holiday season. The Castle’s summer season will run from Sunday 17 July until Monday 29 August and offers something for everyone.

Attractions this summer include Devon Bird of Prey’s majestic flying displays; which visitors can enjoy daily at 3.30pm along with a static display from 1pm throughout the Devon school holidays. The popular Deer Park Safari will run daily at 1.45pm, 2.45 and 4.15 providing visitors with a fantastic opportunity to view the Castle from the original estuary entrance, explore the ancient...

Teignmouth Art Society's summer sketching day a success

On Thursday 17th June, Powderham Castle welcomed members of Teignmouth Art Society for the beginning of their summer sketching season.

This year, the event drew a record number of artists on the day, with 25 members attending. This included a mix of novice and experienced artists, with many taking inspiration from Powderham’s deer park.

The magical setting of Powderham Castle is a firm favourite with Teignmouth Art Society, who have visited Powderham at the start of their season for a number of years.

Toby Buckland's Garden Festival line-up announced

Toby Buckland, horticulturalist, writer and TV presenter is pleased to announce the line-up for his 2016 Garden Festival at Powderham Castle, near Exeter.

The festival will take place over two days, Friday 29th April and Saturday 30th April, 10am-5pm

Michaelmas Fair comes to Powderham

Powderham Castle, the family seat of the Earl and Countess of Devon, is the setting for this year’s Michaelmas Fair, which is hosted by ABF The Soldiers’ Charity. The Soldiers’ Charity is the National Charity of the British Army.

The Fair will be a chance to undertake some early Christmas shopping whilst enjoying the grandiose surroundings of the Castle. The Music Room is just one of the many rooms that will be housing stalls selling jewellery, accessories, china, cards, clothing, soft furnishings, books, Christmas puddings, handbags, and a wide range of gifts.

Knockout day for FORCE

The FORCE Cancer Charity It’s A Knockout event on a gloriously sunny day at Powderham Castle was a huge success.

More than 70 teams of 10 took part in some amazing fancy dress costumes.

They tackled 12 obstacles over the course of the day, many of them involving giant inflatables, water and foamy bubbles.

Teams were awarded points for their performance as well as the amount of money raised for FORCE from sponsorship.

The overall champions were The PE Warriors from St Peter’s School in Exeter but everyone who took part was a winner.
