Powderham Castle is gearing up for an exciting, action-packed summer holiday season. The Castle’s summer season will run from Sunday 17 July until Monday 29 August and offers something for everyone.

Attractions this summer include Devon Bird of Prey’s majestic flying displays; which visitors can enjoy daily at 3.30pm along with a static display from 1pm throughout the Devon school holidays. The popular Deer Park Safari will run daily at 1.45pm, 2.45 and 4.15 providing visitors with a fantastic opportunity to view the Castle from the original estuary entrance, explore the ancient deer park and learn about the herd of 600 fallow deer that are resident at Powderham Castle.

If that’s not enough, Powderham’s friendly animals - Harry the donkey, Kinder & Molly the ponies, Pecky the cockerel, Geoff the turkey and Tessa the tortoise, not forgetting the degus, ducks and guinea pigs - are all excited for lots of attention and cuddles in the Walled Garden.   While there, visitors can also tour the newly restored and replanted glass houses.

The ever-popular Pocketwatch Theatre Company will be in residence at Powderham for much of the summer, with exciting and engaging themed weeks including Knights and Dragons (24 – 29 July) Pirates (31 July – 5 August), Wonderland (8 – 12 August), Robin Hood (14 – 19 August) and concludes with the summer finale Pirates and Mermaids (21 – 29 August). The themed interactive sessions are aimed at children aged 5-11 years, but enjoyed by all ages.

As well as all the activities within the grounds, Castle tours will continue to run at regular intervals until 3.45, from which time, throughout the summer season only, visitors will be able to wander around the ground floor of the Castle unguided until 5.00pm.

Visitor Attraction Manager, Ingrid Oram, said: “We’re looking forward to the summer season ahead and especially welcoming the local community, as well as those who have travelled from afar. Powderham Castle is a magical day out and with so many activities and events planned, there will be something for everyone.”

This summer season, Good Game will be running a barbeque in the Powderham grounds serving locally-sourced artisan burgers and sausages. Their pop-up shed will sit alongside our ice-cream hut serving local, scooped ‘Orange Elephant’ ice cream. The Courtenay Café within the Castle courtyard will offer a range of delicious homemade refreshments including sandwiches, light lunches and Devon cream teas, made with local ingredients.

Powderham Castle’s summer season begins on Sunday 17 July and is the perfect excuse for a fun-filled family day out. The first guided tour of the Castle will commence at 11.00am, with the final guided tour at 3.45pm. The Castle and grounds are open until 5.30pm.  Admission to the Castle and grounds is £11.50 for adults, £9.50 for children and £10.50 for seniors. A family ticket is available (2+3) for £32.50.
