Flog It! heads for Powderham Castle

The popular BBC One antiques programme Flog It! presented by Paul Martin, is set to visit Powderham Castle in Kenton on Thursday 7 May 2015. Flog It! - the major BBC antiques show is now on its fourteenth series and regularly achieves an audience of over two million viewers in its weekday afternoon slot. Powderham Castle, the home to the Earl and Countess of Devon near Exeter will be hosting the Flog It! valuation day. Rather like a treasure hunt, members of the public are invited to bring along up to three antiques and collectables they might be interested in selling.

Castle opens its doors for new season

Powderham Castle, the 600 year old home of the Earl and Countess of Devon near Exeter, opens its doors this Friday for the start of the new 2015 season.

After months of preparation, the Castle & grounds will be open again to visitors from Friday 27th March to Friday 30th October 2015, and provides a perfect history-laden family day out. The Castle is open from Sunday to Friday from 11am to 4.30 pm.

This Saturday, Powderham Castle with be holding a Spring Open Day to celebrate the start of the 2015 season from 11am to 4.30 pm.

New attractions include a Pomona apple press - bring apples to press, a potter charging £4 a throw to make a bowl or pot, a drop-in willow weaving workshop for making broomsticks, spiderwebs etc,we have a lady coming selling aloe vera products, a face painter plus Powderham Forge and all the usual tasters, hog roast and some live music.

With a fabulous line-up of artists to bring you the very best of the 80s, and an action packed day of general 80s fun, there will be plenty to do for everyone at this Family Friendly Festival!

Shakespeare: The Comedy of Errors

The Festival Players will be performing Shakespeare’s shortest play in the Castle courtyard. This is a brilliant farce of mistaken identities, combined with a few undertones of the dramatic and sinister. A master and his servant arrive in a foreign port which, unbeknown to them, is the home of their long-lost twin brothers. Mayhem ensues as brother is taken for brother in a riotous train of misunderstandings, seduction, and pursuit. A colourful and entertaining romp.

Pirate Week

Captain Jack and his lively crew are back from Tortuga for some more pirate antics. This is your last chance to meet them this season.

There will be a Pirate Trail for children to follow around the grounds to win a prize as well as all the usual wonderful attractions.

Sessions take place at set times throughout the day. Pick up your session ticket on arrival. This event is included in a child's standard admission. (Children returning with a free return ticket or a discounted ticket may take part in our themed activity for £2)
