A meeting of East Devon District Council’s Strategic Planning Committee due to take place next Wednesday (September 23) to discuss Cranbrook Town Centre has been postponed following significant changes to the original proposals by developers.

A key element of the meeting was to discuss the proposal put forward by the East Devon New Community Partners (EDNCp) who are the developers for the majority of Cranbrook and have control of the land in the town centre.

First steps to replace old bridge on Exeter Quayside taking place

The first steps to replace an old bridge on Exeter Quayside that had come to the end of its life have taken place this week.

The wooden Mallison Bridge, which spans the medieval leats on the north bank of the River Exe, has been removed as its timbers had become rotten and unsafe to use.

Planning permission for a new pedestrian and cycle bridge was given in December 2018 and a new structure will be built as soon as adequate funding has been identified.

Planning proposals for new district heating network in East Devon

A local development order (LDO) is being proposed for district heating networks in the area to the east of Exeter, in and around the Exeter and East Devon Enterprise Zone.

The LDO is a way for East Devon District Council, as the Local Planning Authority, to put in place a simplified planning system by granting planning consent for development as specified. LDOs encourage economic development and investment by improving the speed and predictability of development proposals.

East Devon planners approve new cycling and walking trail in East Devon

On Tuesday 30th October, East Devon District Council’s Development Management Committee approved a planning application for a new three metre-wide surfaced multi-user trail at Clyst St Mary, from the bridge over the Grindle Brook at Winslade Park, to Kenniford Farm in Clyst St George.

A total length of 1.1 kilometres, it will form part of the Clyst Valley Trail. When complete the Trail will be a 13-km (8 mile) commuting and leisure route, linking the Exe Estuary Trail at Darts Farm with Killerton House and Park by way of an existing multi-use trail from Broadclyst.

Planning application submitted for new bridge in Sidmouth

A planning application has been submitted for a new bridge over the River Sid in Sidmouth.

Following a consultation earlier this year, Devon County Council has refined the design of the structure, amending its appearance and changing the materials which are proposed to be used.

The planned new footbridge would replace Alma Bridge, and would be approximately 37 metres upstream from the existing structure.

The bridge features a 19-metre span and would be accessed by short sections of steep ramps.
