Support Exeter’s ‘Row for the Ocean’ crowdfunding campaign to mark World Oceans Day and take action against plastic pollution

With World Oceans Day on the horizon this Friday, the four women behind Exeter’s ‘Row for the Ocean’ team are urging people to help them reach their £10,000 crowdfunding target as the campaign enters its final week.

Kirsty Barker, Rosalind Holsgrove-West, Kate Salmon, and Laura Try launched their Crowdfunder in May in the final push to fund their transatlantic challenge in December. Supported by local company P1 Investment and other sponsors, they will be making a record-breaking attempt to row, unsupported, 3,000 miles from the Canary Islands to the West Indies in the Talisker...

Exeter marine plastics expert to advise parliamentary select committee

A University of Exeter expert marine pollution will be giving advice to a cross-party committee of MPs at the Palace of Westminster in London today (Monday).

Marine litter hindering benefits of the coast

Marine litter can undermine the psychological benefits of coastal environments, a study has shown.

The beneficial effects of the blue environment to human health and well-being are well documented, but there has been little research into how the growing global issue of marine litter might negate them.

To measure this, Plymouth University secured funding from the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) and the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) to assess public reaction to the differing conditions of coastlines.

The money’s in for charity swim

LED are pleased to announce the grand total raised for the Force Cancer Charity Swim in February is over £5,138 with money still coming through!

Earlier this year swimmers across LED's five swimming pools were invited to take part in the Force Cancer Charity Swim where swimmers were asked to take part in either a 14 or 28 mile swim over the course of the month.

Fifty swimmers took part in the challenge to raise money for this local charity that has played a vital role in local cancer services for the last 26 years.

Tidal wave of children sweep through Ocean

LED’s fun-filled family day at Ocean Exmouth on Sunday 5 July was a huge success!

The local community came out in force to support LED when they opened the doors to Ocean on Sunday morning.

Excitement had been mounting all week on social media with hundreds of people on Facebook and Twitter confirming they would be coming along to the fun-filled family day. Entry to the soft play was free all day and visitors were offered a free game of the newly installed Mad Game bowling.
