Headway launches Action for Brain Injury Week 2023: Every 90 Seconds

Every 90 seconds, someone in the UK is admitted to hospital with a brain injury – that’s a staggering 350,000 people per year.

Headway UK’s Action for Brain Injury Week is an annual campaign designed to raise awareness and understanding of acquired brain injury (ABI) and to help give survivors and their loved ones a voice.

This year’s ABI Week campaign entitled Every 90 Seconds , takes place from May 15-21 and will highlight how common brain injuries are and how they can affect any of us at any time.

A Devon-based charity is providing a lifeline for vulnerable adults with a brain injury during the covid-19 pandemic through remote support.

Some of the community’s most isolated members were left with nowhere to turn as lockdown commenced and they were cut off from their family, friends and the outside world.

Headway Devon’s brilliant team expands this week with the addition of Dr Katrina Chesterman. Ashill Inn support Headway Devon

A local pub has raised a fantastic £510 for local people with brain injuries following their Christmas draw.

The Ashill Inn in Cullompton decided to support Headway Devon following the experiences of two of their regular customers, Anne and Dave Brummitt. The couple have been supported by the charity after Dave sustained a brain injury in 2016. Anne commented “We are very grateful to the Ashill Inn for raising this money, and to Headway Devon who are a real lifeline for us.”

Headway Devon Joins “Friends Against Scams” Scheme

Local brain injury charity Headway Devon is proud to have joined a national scheme that aims to prevent people falling victim to scams.

Friends Against Scams is an initiative run by National Trading Standards which aims to protect and prevent people from becoming victims of scams by empowering communities to "Take a Stand Against Scams".

As part of the scheme all Headway Devon staff are being offered training in recognising scams and supporting people to avoid becoming victims of fraud.

On Thursday 7th July, local brain injury charity Headway Devon marked twenty years of work in the local community with a celebratory tea party.
