Cleaning company director found guilty of fraud

A company director who offered to clean carpets in Devon and West Sussex at rock-bottom prices before hiking them up by 1,000 per cent has been found guilty of fraud.

At Exeter Crown Court on Friday 23 September, Adam Joseph Vallier, 34, of Hannington Road, Pokesdown, Bournemouth, was convicted of misleading consumers following a five-day trial.

The successful prosecution follows an investigation by Devon and Somerset Trading Standards Service.

Vallier traded under A Star Carpet Cleaning Ltd and Premier Carpet Cleaning Ltd from addresses in Dorset and Bournemouth...

RD&E Trust Chairman supports need for big changes in NHS in Devon

Speaking at the Royal Devon & Exeter’s NHS Foundation Trust’s (RD&E) Annual Members’ Meeting on Saturday 24 September, Trust Chairman, James Brent, highlighted the need for changes to be made to the way in which care is delivered in Devon but also said that people will need to take greater responsibility for their own health and well-being.

Police seek witness to incident in Exeter

Police in Exeter have released the image of a man they wish to identify as they believe he may have witnessed a crime in the City Centre.

Detective Constable Mark Nagle, said: “Just after midnight on Friday the 16th of September, we responded to reports of two men on bicycles in Bampfylde Street in Princesshay, Exeter acting in a threatening manner.

“One of these men was seen to point what was believed to be a handgun and threatened a passer-by.

Exeter charity given green light to make energy efficiency improvements

Staff, volunteers and patients at the city’s hospice were celebrating after being awarded £2,000 from the E.ON Energy Action Fund towards the cost of replacement lighting throughout the building.

In a bid to improve its energy efficiency, charity Hospiscare has now begun fitting LED lighting in its day care and in-patient units, education facilities and staff offices. Hospiscare expects the new, high efficiency lighting to reduce its electricity use by more than 60%, with resulting savings to the charity of around £5,000 a year. A Willand sports club is set to introduce more youngsters to gymnastics, weightlifting and athletics thanks to a donation from a leading UK housebuilder. Excelsior Athletic Development Club received £1,000 from Persimmon Homes South West as part of the firm’s Community Champion initiative, which sees a pot of £24,000 donated to local groups and charities each year. A football club that offers adults with disabilities the chance to get involved in the beautiful game has received a cash boost for new kits courtesy of a leading UK housebuilder.

Exeter City Ability Counts FC has been handed a £1,000 grant thanks to Persimmon Homes South West’s Community Champions scheme, which has seen over £400,000 donated nationally this year.
