An initiative to reduce the numbers of animals killed on Dartmoor roads has been launched this week.

New interactive traffic signs are being installed at several locations in Dartmoor National Park in an effort to reduce the numbers of animals killed each year due to speeding motorists.

The signs, which are being funded through a partnership between the Dartmoor Livestock Protection Society (DLPS), Dartmoor Forest Parish Council (DFPC ) and Dartmoor National Park Authority, warn motorists if they are exceeding the 40mph speed limit across Dartmoor.

Devon Bat Survey opens

A Devon-based project dedicated to conserving one of the county's most endangered animals is now appealing for volunteers to help it in its vital work.

Find out about the bats on your doorstep! This spring and summer, people across Devon can take part in a major scientific bat survey run by the Devon Greater Horseshoe Bat Project.

The survey allows volunteers to borrow a detector from one of 20 monitoring centres dotted around the county, to place in a selected 1km grid square for 3 nights.

Woman seriously hurt in fuel tanker crash

Police are appealing for witnesses following a collision involving a fuel tanker near Honiton.

At around 7:15am on Sunday 19th March, a serious collision took place between a blue Peugeot 206 and a 44-tonne fuel tanker on Windgate Hill, Honiton.

A third vehicle, a black Vauxhall Corsa was following directly behind the Peugeot 206 and was involved in a secondary collision.

The 18-year-old female driver of the blue Peugeot sustained serious, life changing arm injuries and was airlifted to Derriford Hospital, Plymouth, where she remains following surgery.

University of Exeter researcher Dr Katie Lunnon has won the Early Career Investigator of the Year Award at the Alzheimer’s Research UK Conference 2017. The 48th Exeter School Choral Society concert once again proved to be a highlight within the calendar of the broader school community.

Exeter Business Improvement District (BID) has recently welcomed two new members further widening the expertise offered in this thirteen-strong leadership team. South West ambulance paramedic Jonathan Green had his hard work and success at creating new opportunities for patients to take part in health research recognised with a regional award.

The National Institute for Health Research Clinical Research Network (CRN) for the South West Peninsula judged Jonathan to be the worthy winner of its Research Network Forum award for creating new research participation opportunities.

Murder investigation launched in Exeter

Officers were called to Bridge Court, Exeter by ambulance staff, just before 1.50am on Friday 17 March, following a concern for welfare of a man. The 47 year old man originally from Liverpool was taken to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Formal identification has not yet been carried out and next of kin have not yet been informed.

Following this unexplained death detectives from the Major Crime Investigation Team launched a murder investigation.
