New Hospiscare shop opens in Heavitree

The people of Heavitree have a new shopping opportunity available to them: a brand-new shop has been opened there by the long established and popular local charity, Hospiscare. The shop was formally opened on Wednesday March 22nd by Paula Lawford, Chair of Exeter Friends, former trustee and founder member of the charity. The shop sells a range of ladies clothes, has an excellent men’s department and an array of electrical goods and homewares.

The new shop will bring the number of retail outlets run by Hospiscare up to twenty-one with shops operating across mid and east Devon...

City council faces up to dementia

As more and more people are diagnosed with Dementia, Exeter City Council has revealed its commitment to the challenges faced by arguably the biggest health crisis facing the UK and how it is helping those with dementia to access its services.

Last year the City Council became a member of the Exeter Dementia Action Alliance. In doing so, it joined over 50 organisations and businesses within Exeter, working to make the city dementia friendly.

Now the Council has mapped out how it is going to help those with the condition.

Nowell relishing Chiefs return

Cornishman Jack Nowell says he cannot wait to pull on an Exeter Chiefs jersey again as he gears up for the club’s return to Aviva Premiership action against Sale Sharks at Sandy Park on Saturday (3pm).

An acclaimed Professor of Gothic horror is to come to Exeter’s Northcott theatre to reveal how Dracula was based on medical evidence of ‘real’ vampires, before a performance of Dracula itself.

‘Prof of Goth’, Nick Groom, who is world expert on Gothic fiction, is preparing to present to the Exeter audience compelling medical evidence of the ‘real’ vampires that Dracula was based on.

The Professor of English literature at Exeter University has just been commissioned by Yale University to write a book on vampires, and has published widely on the Gothic.

He will explain...

19 medals and two national finalists for Honiton Gymnastics Club

One after the other Honiton gymnasts stepped onto the podium to collect honours at the weekend, as 19 partnerships medaled at the annual South West Prelims competition.

The competition was held at King Edmund International Gymnastics Centre in Yate, near Bristol.

Among the medalists were four Honiton gold medal partnerships, two of which have now qualified to represent the South West at the National Development Plan finals at Stoke-on-Trent in May.

Off to the finals – where they will compete against the best from 12 other UK regions – are Oscar Felice and Logan...

Legal profession unites to Walk for Justice

The local legal profession and advice sector are joining forces on Monday 5th June 2017 from 5pm to take part in the Exeter Legal Walk.

The Legal Walk is one of over 30 similar events which run across England and Wales. The sponsored walk raises funds for local free legal advice charities in Exeter and throughout the South West region. Teams from local law firms, chambers and in-house legal teams are expected to come together along with local judges to support local advice services such as Citizens Advice and Law Centres.

Exeter City season ticket prices frozen

Exeter City are delighted to announce that the price of super saver season tickets for the 2017/18 campaign have been frozen.

As ever, supporters are rewarded for committing early. Adults can save up to £115 on matchday prices, when they purchase their season ticket before 5pm on May 15, while under-18s can watch the Grecians for as little as £4 a game with under-12s priced at just £2 per match.

This remains one of the lowest prices of admission in the Football League for people under the age of 18, while adults get the equivalent of five games for free in the IP Office...
