Sam cycles London to Paris for young cancer patients

Sam Pratt spends her day managing the CLIC Sargent Exmouth Charity Shop but this amazing woman is going one step further to help more young cancer patients.

In September this year Sam will be cycling from London to Paris to help raise money vital funds for CLIC Sargent.

Sam said: “Not long after my 50th birthday I shall be cycling from London to Paris all in aid of a charity that's close to my heart, CLIC Sargent. This charity supported me when my daughter was diagnosed with Cancer at just age 2. Thankfully, she is now 26, healthy and well.

“I think I chose London to Paris because it was such a challenge, and I don’t do things by half. Training started in Jan 2017 in the freezing cold and rain. I could only do 10 miles then, now I am up to 50 miles a ride and training 2-3 times a week . I also started to go out with a group from Exmouth Cycles who have been absolutely brilliant.”

CLIC Sargent is the UK’s leading provider of support for young cancer patients under the age of 25, and their families. When cancer strikes young lives CLIC Sargent helps families limit the damage cancer causes beyond their health. Cancer affects every part of life, for the young person and their families – relationships, confidence, money, school, and work.

CLIC Sargent care teams will fight tirelessly to minimize the damage it causes. Sam has been a Shop Manager for CLIC Sargent for over 15 years, managing both the Saltash Charity shop and the Exmouth Charity Shop.

Sam continued saying: “It is great to be able to raise money every day in my job for this amazing charity but I am honoured to have this chance to raise even more funds. I want to do what I can to help more families in need during what is a horrible situation.”

Between the 13th and 17th September Sam will be cycling 250 miles.

If you would like to support Sam, however big or small, please visit https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Samantha-Pratt or pop into the Exmouth CLIC Sargent shop.

The money that Sam is aiming to raise, £2000, could fund a room in one of CLIC Sargent’s Homes from Home for two months.

CLIC Sargent Homes from Homes provide free self-catering accommodation near to specialist children’s cancer treatment centres, which are often many miles from a family’s own home.

Staying in a Home from Home ensures a family can not only be close to their child during treatment, but also elevates any financial concerns on where to stay. If they are well enough, the child or young person can stay there too.

These homes save families on average £2,140 and the average stay in a CLIC Sargent Home from Home is 23 days.
