Bridge Road in Exeter will be closed from 10pm on Friday 7 April until 5am on Monday 10 April for ongoing widening improvements.

The closure is needed to enable the assembly of steelwork on Countess Wear Bridge, and installation of the first few spans of a new pedestrian and cycle bridge which runs alongside the Grade II Listed structure. The remaining spans will then be lifted into place in the coming weeks.

The diversion route will be signed via Topsham Road, Alphington Road, Marsh Barton and the A379. Details of the diversion route are available here.

Details of changes to Stagecoach bus services will be available here.

Stagecoach Services heading towards Exminster will be diverted via Barrack Road, Topsham Road and Holloway Street, then on to Western Way to Exe Bridges, Alphington Road to pass Sainsburys, and via Church Road then Alphin Brook Road, onto Hennock Road Central, through to The Devon Hotel roundabout and resume their normal route from Bridge Road roundabout. Services towards Exeter will follow the reverse of this route.

Services 39, X38, X46, X64 towards A38/A380 will continue to Countess Wear roundabout, then via A379 Rydon Lane, and onto M5 to join A38 to resume their normal route. When these services head towards Exeter, from the A38, they will divert via the M5 to the A379 then via the Countess Wear roundabout, and onto Topsham Road to resume their normal route.

Pedestrians and cyclists will be able to access Bridge Road during the closure via temporary paths. They are advised to take care and follow the site signage and any instructions from site staff.
