A leading housebuilder has contributed around £2 million towards a new school in Exeter.

Charles Church South West has revealed it has handed over the hefty cheque to Devon County Council as part of its Great Woodcote Park development off Admiral Way.

Trinity Church of England Primary School is being built in the Newcourt area of the city and is due to open in September. Without the considerable contribution towards education, it would have been unlikely that this school would be delivered.

Construction started in February this year and the new school building is anticipated to be completed by Easter 2018. The first cohort of pupils will be housed in temporary accommodation in the Newcourt area until construction is complete.

Charles Church agrees to contribute huge sums on money towards things like education, highways and open spaces through Section 106 agreements during the planning process.

Simon Perks, regional managing director of Charles Church South West, said: “We are delighted to have made this significant contribution towards this new school, which I’m sure is going to be a fantastic facility for the children in the area.

“Each year we build hundreds of much-needed homes across the South West. On top of that we are providing thousands of jobs, affordable housing for Local Authorities and millions of pounds towards infrastructure and community improvements.

“Construction is a crucial part of the overall economy. It keeps things moving. We are pleased to be leading the way in this area and have plans for further expansion in the years to come.”

Great Woodcote Park has a stunning range of three, four and five bedroom homes in the shadow of Exeter Golf Club.

Built to the highest specification, all homes include gas central heating, PVCu double-glazing and a selection of kitchen finishes with co-ordinating wall units and upstands.
