Fire crews battle Exeter factory blaze

Fire Control received two calls from on-site staff at a factory on Kestrel Way, Exeter, reporting that alarms had activated and there was a fire in the casting plant within the foundry section of the factory.

The blaze started at around 1.26am today (SATURDAY) at Arconic on Sowton Industrial Estate.

Mihangelf Promotions is a new music promotions enterprise in South Devon putting on live music, primarily at the Unit 23 Live venue in Totnes, formerly South Devon Arts Centre, a short hop away on the train or down the A38.

The enterprise is run by music lover Mike Fraser who lives local to Totnes.

Goodridge Ltd, who are based in Exeter, have helped the presenter of popular restoration show Wheeler Dealers, Mike Brewer, with a special charity project known as the #ClassicRumble.

Number of empty homes in Teignbridge continues to fall

The amount of homes lying empty in Teignbridge is at an all-time low – and efforts remain underway to bring more back into use.

Teignbridge District Council has once again cut the number of vacant properties. Figures reveal numbers have dropped by over 50% from 735 empty homes in 2008 to 361 in 2017 so far.

Teignbridge is the only Devon authority to have reduced the amount left unoccupied every year since 2008.

More women than men diagnosed with bowel cancer as an emergency despite extra GP visits

More than a third (34%) of women with bowel cancer in England were diagnosed after an emergency hospital visit compared to less than a third of men (30%), despite women having more red flag symptoms and more visits to their GP, according to research presented at the National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) Cancer Conference in Liverpool.

If diagnosed after an emergency hospital visit, patients are more likely to have poorer survival as the disease is usually at an advanced stage.
