Beware of icy conditions on Devon's roads

Icy conditions could be a problem on Devon’s roads tomorrow (Wednesday 29 January) as another cold night is in store this evening.

The main gritting routes in the county are already being treated by Devon County Council’s gritters this afternoon and they will continue their efforts overnight.

While the possibility of snow is only forecast for Dartmoor, wintry showers are forecast on areas of high ground, although they are set to die out in the early hours.

Volunteers needed now for Marie Curie’s Great Daffodil Appeal in Devon

Marie Curie, the UK’s leading charity for people living with a terminal illness and their families, is urgently calling for volunteers in Devon to give just two hours of their time to hand out the charity’s iconic daffodil pins, in return for donations.

PEOPLE in Devon are being urged to show support on World Cancer Day for everyone affected by the disease.

Cancer Research UK is calling on men, women and children to wear one of the charity’s brightly coloured Unity Bands with pride on Tuesday, February 4.

Every hour, around 4 people are diagnosed with cancer in the South West.*

Wearing a Unity Band is a way of showing solidarity with people affected by the disease.

Forecast of wintry showers could make travelling conditions challenging

Wintry showers could make conditions on Devon’s roads hazardous overnight and into tomorrow morning, Devon County Council is warning.

While most of the county is likely to see rain and hail showers over the next 24 hours, up to 3.5cm of snow is forecast for higher ground such as Dartmoor, with less expected on Exmoor and the Blackdown Hills.

A poem and film written and created by Riverford co-owners is to form the centrepiece of the company’s 2020 brand campaign and first-ever TV on-demand adverts.

Based around the company’s history and values and set on the farm, the poem, entitled ‘A Walk Through Our Fields’, was written by Riverford co-owner Ellen Warrell.

It was then produced as a short film directed by video producer Christian Kay, who held auditions and built a cast of co-owners from across the Riverford business.

Sally Chapman from Chudleigh celebrated her birthday this year by having her head shaved to raise money for Alzheimer’s Research UK, the UK’s leading dementia research charity.

Sally, who turned 55, was inspired by her father who had vascular dementia.

In the build up to her head shave, Sally raised over £1300 for Alzheimer’s Research UK, which powers world-class studies focusing on prevention, diagnosis and treatments for dementia.
