As coronavirus restricts our ability to travel and piles pressure on the health system, Marie Stopes UK is opening three new clinics in Devon offering women increased access to NHS-funded early medical abortion.

The leading safe abortion provider opened a new clinic in Exeter on April 1, with another to follow in Paignton in the coming months. It is also taking over an existing clinic in Plymouth, offering evening appointments giving women greater choice and flexibility in both the timing and location of their appointment.

Richard Bentley, Marie Stopes UK’s Managing Director said: “Choice is fundamental to everything we do, and our three new clinics mean that women in Devon will be able to access much needed care and advice from highly trained, dedicated health care professionals, without the added stress and difficulties of organising travel further afield. Women opting for surgical abortion will also have access to Marie Stopes UK’s state of the art centre in Bristol.”

The new clinics are situated in centrally located health centres, providing a confidential setting that respects women’s dignity and privacy and are easily accessible from all over the county.

Women seeking abortion care will also be offered the full range of contraception methods, as well as testing for chlamydia.

In addition to the professional care and support provided by the clinic’s nursing staff, Marie Stopes UK’s 24-hour confidential helpline One Call (0345 300 8090) is available day or night every day of the year, offering women advice and unlimited counselling with independent counsellors registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy.
