From families and friends to Olympian Tom Daley, the world of craft has attracted many new enthusiasts over the last 18 months and ICHF Events’ Creative Craft Show, returning to Exeter’s Westpoint Arena from Thursday 23rd– Sunday 26th September, has something for everyone.
From sewing, felting and papercraft to knitting and jewellery making, the Creative Craft Show brings the hottest new supplies and latest trends to die hard crafters and newcomers alike in the South West.
The Environment Agency have launched a 12-month pilot with Hello Lamp post to give residents and visitors to Exmouth the opportunity to have a ‘conversation’ with the Exmouth Tidal Defence Scheme. Hello Lamp post allows people to have two-way 'chats' with objects in their local environment. Battersea’s Muddy Dog Challenge is one of the UK’s biggest obstacle courses you can take part in with your dog. The aim of the challenge is simply to have fun while raising money for Battersea. Participants can enter solo, in a team with the kids, with or without a dog, and there is a distance of 2.5km or 5km to choose from. Young people, who have been treated for cancer at The Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital and Derriford Hospital, enjoyed three days of sailing with the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust from Plymouth Yacht Haven, as the Trust aims to transform more young lives this summer.
13 young people, aged between 9 and 27, took part in three days of sailing between 3-5 August. Each group of young people were joined by a Trust crew of volunteers and a skipper who taught them to raise the sails and helm the 44ft yacht.

A whopping 93% of people in Exeter admit to finding out what friends, family, colleagues and even their boss paid for their home, according to new research released from Zoopla .
Of the people in Exeter who look up what others have paid for their home, two fifths (41%) claim that they do this regularly. The first Roman fort on National Trust land in Devon has been confirmed at a site on the Killerton estate. A fortnight’s dig at Budlake Farm, on the estate, has proven a long-held theory that a First Century Roman fort was sited there.
The Devon fort joins a list of over 100 Roman forts on National Trust land around the UK.
Led by Trust archaeologist Martin Papworth, a team of archaeology volunteers and staff found evidence of a triple-ditched fort enclosure as well as a coin, samian pottery and ironwork thought to be from between 50-70 AD.

Climate activists from Animal Rebellion and local groups of Extinction Rebellion held a sit-in protest at Exeter McDonald’s on Sunday, demanding that the fast-food chain moves towards a plant-based menu.
Branded a McSit-in, they brought their own lunches and occupied areas of the restaurant for three hours, insisting that the fast-food chain takes responsibility for the destruction they say it causes on our planet. The protest follows similar sit-ins held in towns throughout Somerset and Dorset, as well as McDonald’s branches across the country.
