Exeter Councillors criticise children's home plans

Criticisms have been raised by county councillors from Exeter on provisional plans to close the three children’s homes operated by Devon county Council.

Funding for the council’s three homes, Rifford Road, Blossom Hill and Birchen lane has been included in the proposed cuts despite consultation on the issue yet to be carried out; leading some councillors to feel the decision to close the homes has already been made.

Mamhead Slipway set for £1m rebuild

East Devon District Council is set to give the go ahead for a new and improved slipway to be built at Mamhead Gardens replacing the existing, dangerous structure that closed for safety reasons in August 2012.

Cabinet (5 February) is being asked to approve the submission of a planning application and an application for a marine licence to allow the works to go ahead with the estimated cost for the replacement slipway between £1m and £1.5m. Parents have left the art world horrified after letting their two daughters play on a £10m sculpture at the Tate Modern. New York gallery owner, Stephanie Theodore, posted a picture of the children playing on the multi-million pound piece by American artist Donald Judd with the caption: “Holy crap. Bailiffs to face stronger regulation

New reforms, banning Bailiffs and Councils from ‘heavy-handed behaviour’ when collecting debts, will come into force next April.

The reforms will prevent bailiffs from entering people’s homes at night or when only children are present as well as how and when they can take property.

Sandy Park was the venue for The 2013 Lord’s Taverners Annual Christmas Dinner in December.

Man arrested for Tiverton phoneshop burglary

An 18-year-old man has been arrested after a moible phone shop was burgled in Tiverton last week.

The Carphone Warehouse in Tiverton offered a £500 reward for information after a large number of phones were taken during the burglary. The shop was targeted by thieves in the early hours of Thursday 23 January 2014. Thieves gained entry to an empty property above the shop and broke through the floor into offices below.
