If being part of the big occasion is what sport is about, Exeter is the place to head on Haldon Gold Cup Day. The great Desert Orchid, the brilliant Viking Flagship, the dazzling Cue Card and the irreplaceable Kauto Star – they’ve all leapt around Exeter’s fences in their quest for glory.

First run as a weight-for-age race in 1982, the Haldon Gold Cup gained listed status in 1985. Fast, furious and spectacular it is run over two-mile one-furlong and with £62,500 in prize money it’s one that trainers make an early season target.

Exeter Racecourse resumes action next Tuesday with the return of racing to Haldon Hill.

Storm Callum brought much-needed rain to the Devon track and with an unsettled forecast in the lead up to the meeting it’s all systems go on Haldon Hill.

Jump racing is back at Exeter Racecourse on Thursday, 11th October and early birds can pre-book Grandstand and Paddock tickets for just £10 each until noon on the 11th September.

There’s a whole new look to greet racegoers following major rebuilding work during the summer. Hundreds of Scouts descend on Exeter Racecourse for Run To The Fun

Hundreds of scouts are set to take over Exeter Racecourse for a week-long jamboree when Run To The Fun begins this Sunday.

The event is organized by Devon Scouts who have put on a range of activities and adventures ranging from circus skills to axe throwing, with trips to Exeter planned too. Evening entertainment includes a silent disco and a barn dance.

Central to the event is a global village to give scouts taking part a taste of activities from international jamborees around the world. Finland, Denmark, Sweden and Kenya are just some of the countries scouts can visit...

Exeter Racecourse is delighted to have been awarded a Bronze Green Tourism Award, awarded by the Green Tourism Business Scheme which is the leading sustainable tourism certification scheme in the UK, after it primary inspection and will be working towards achieving a Gold Award to ensure it is increasingly sustainable.

Exeter is owned by The Jockey Club and at each of its 14 racecourses a Green Champion works with the group’s sustainability executive so that steps are implemented to reduce its impact on the environment.

Exeter Racecourse concluded its season against the backdrop of blue skies and a plethora of colour as ladies and gentlemen from across the region converged to celebrate Heavitree-sponsored Ladies Night.

Dozens came forward for the best dressed competitions, with Daria Cernobrivec from Plymouth judged the overall winner, her stunning Karen Millen dress and headpiece by Sara Tiara clinching a plethora of prizes including a stay at the luxury boutique hotel Bayards Cove Inn, Dartmouth and vouchers from Hoopers of Torquay.

Creative Inertia was crowned Exeter Racecourse’s intermediate hunter chase series final after a rousing display in which he took up the lead three fences from home and galloped on to record an eight lengths success in the hands of Rex Dingle.

Monica Tory’s eight-year-old had qualified for the final at Bishops Court in November where he finished second of the five runners on good to soft going.

South Devon Scouts spread word on Exeter’s Family Day

Three scouts from South Devon have been invited to attend Exeter Racecourse’s Family Day next Sunday to help them raise funds for the 24th World Scout Jamboree, which takes place in the USA next year.

Ted Garry, Poppy Edwards and Megan Davies, who are all 14, need to raise £4,100 each to attend the jamboree which will unite 45,000 Scouts and Scouters from over 165 countries to promote peace, mutual understating and respect while participating in outdoor adventure activities and unique cultural experiences.
