One of East Devon District Council’s most popular nature reserves, Seaton Wetlands, has earned well deserved recognition as one of Devon’s top tourist attractions, by winning a Bronze award at the prestigious Devon Tourism Awards, held at Highbullen Hotel Golf & Country Club in North Devon.

Colyton Grammar School in Devon is one of 16 selective grammar schools in the country to secure a share of a £50 million fund from the Department of Education to support better access for students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Network Rail has given approval for Phase 3 of East Devon District Council’s flood alleviation scheme in Feniton, which consists of laying a one metre diameter culvert beneath the railway line.
This is the first part of the services it is providing to East Devon, which will help complete the project. A suitable 52 hour window in October 2019 within which the new culvert can be placed under the railway has now been identified by Network Rail. Child cruelty and neglect offences in the UK have doubled over the last five years, the NSPCC has revealed. There were 16,939 child cruelty and neglect offences recorded by police in 2017/18, up from 7,965 in 2012/13. The rise for the same five-year period is even more dramatic in the South West, where police forces in the region recorded 312 child cruelty and neglect offences in 2012/2013 to 1,618 offences in 2017/18 – a fivefold increase.
