NFU disappointed with latest milk price cuts

The chairman of the NFU's dairy board has expressed disappointment following the latest round of milk price cuts.

Dairy Crest and First Milk have today announced further price drops from January 2015.

NFU dairy board chairman Rob Harrison said: “Although the fundamentals of the global supply and demand situation haven't changed this latest price slash is another kick in the teeth and comes at the expense of the average dairy farmer who is now making a significant loss for every litre of milk they produce. Major flood defence scheme announced

Homes in Exeter, Dawlish Warren and Exmouth will be better protected from floods thanks to an unprecedented six-year £2.3 billion flood defence programme, benefitting Devon and Cornwall to the tune of £86m, which has been announced by the government today. A new flood defence scheme in Perranporth, just one of 163 schemes across the South West getting the green light today, is worth £825,000 and will protect over 200 properties in the area. From diving to mine warfare and nursing to media operations, the Royal Naval Reserve is offering potential recruits the chance to gain an insight into the valuable work of the Navy’s own volunteer force.

Plymouth’s reserve establishment, HMS Vivid, which has volunteers from across Devon and Cornwall, is holding a ‘Live’ event on Wednesday 12 November.

There will be opportunities to meet the local team and discuss the benefits of being a reservist, the wide range of activities on offer and a chance to see some of these specialist roles in action.
