Lib Dem plan to save Devon's bus services

Devon's bus services could be back on the road and saved from planned Conservative cuts under new budget plans delivered to County Hall today (16th) by the County's Liberal Democrats.

In changes being put forward to Devon County Council when it meets on Thursday (19th) to decide the budget for the new financial year, the Lib Dems want to put back £1.7million to keep the county's buses on the road.

Funding approved to kickstart infrastructure design

Devon County Council has confirmed its commitment to the local economy by announcing support for major infrastructure improvements.

In approving its budget on Friday 13 February, the County Council Cabinet allocated £2.25 million for design costs and essential technical studies to kick-start future improvements to the A303/A30 and A39/A361 North Devon Link Road.

The announcement by Devon County Council has been welcomed by MPs who have been campaigning for greater Government investment in Devon’s key road links.

Appeal for witnesses after Ottery crash

Police received reports of a collision between a Yellow Ford Focus and a Toyota 4x4 in Wiggaton, Ottery St Mary at around 4.30pm on Friday 13 February.

It is believed that the Ford then failed to stop following the collision and fled the scene. The car was later discovered that evening in a burnt out state on Burscombe Lane.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision to come forward, we would also like to hear from anyone who has information relating to the whereabouts of the Yellow Ford Escort following the crash, prior to being discovered in its burnt out state...

Ian Whitten admits there was a glowing sense of satisfaction within the ranks after Exeter Chiefs returned to winning ways in the Aviva Premiership with a 46-17 victory over Newcastle Falcons on Saturday.

Sky team keep rhinos on the ball

Sky field engineers from across Devon converged on Paignton Zoo to make some hefty treats for the larger animals.

The team of 18 engineers from Plymouth, Tavistock and Torbay made environmental enrichment devices for different species, including big balls for the rhinos and big cats.

As you can imagine, any toy that a rhino is going to play with needs to be tough. A rhino ball is made out of car and tractor tyres bolted together. In this instance, they have metal brackets inside so they make a noise when rolled, making them even more interesting.

Devon and Cornwall Police are reminding people that domestic abuse can happen to anyone and although Valentine’s Day is associated with love and romance, for some, it can prove a traumatic time of year.

The Force is running its ‘Is This Love?’ campaign which aims to raise awareness of the different aspects of abuse – emotional, financial, physical, and sexual.

Domestic abuse is the cruel misuse of power and control by one person over another. It can begin at any time, can be obvious or subtle and can happen suddenly or gradually.

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter says he has a group of players looking forward to returning to Aviva Premiership duty today (Saturday) at home to Newcastle Falcons (4:30pm).

Exeter hosts World Pancake Championships

You don’t get many World Championships coming to Exeter, but on Shrove Tuesday (Tuesday 17 February), Princesshay will host the second World Pancake Racing Championships.

Local businesses and organisations will take to the street to demonstrate their pancake flipping credentials.
