Recycling roadshow rolls into Exmouth

Scores of people came along to East Devon District Council’s Feniton recycling road show on Saturday to pick up top tips on how to recycle more and throw away less.

The event was held in the village to help householders prepare for the new improved recycling collection service which is being trialled in the area, and in Exmouth (The Colony), from mid-September.

Next Saturday (August 29) the road show rolls in to the Imperial Recreation Ground in Exmouth from 11am to 2pm and everyone is invited to come along and have a chat with the council’s recycling and waste team....

Exeter restaurant up for top curry award

Goa Spice Premier in Exeter has been shortlisted in the South West's Best Curry category of the English Curry Awards.

After months of fierce competition, over 15,000 nominations were received from the public across England, which guarantees to be an extremely tight contest. Judges will now visit shortlisted restaurants and takeaways from all over England who are battling it out to make the best curry in the country.

The Cowick Street restaurant will find out if it is a winner at a glamorous ceremony taking place in Manchester on Monday 31 August.

Extended opening hours at Topsham Library

Library users in Topsham will benefit from extended opening hours thanks to additional support provided by volunteers. From 7 September the opening hours will increase from 15 to 19.5 with the library open until 6pm every Monday and Thursday for ‘Library Extra’ sessions hosted by Estuary League of Friends volunteers.

Cllr Roger Croad, Devon County Council's Cabinet Member with responsibility for the library service, said:

"These new opening hours are excellent news for residents in Topsham, especially children and families who now have an extra afternoon to use the library...

Exeter School is pleased to welcome Mrs Sue Marks to Exeter Junior School as Headmistress from 1 September 2015.

Sue is a very experienced and compassionate primary sector leader who has worked in seven primary/preparatory schools with great energy and enthusiasm.

Her career pathway began as a medical scientist working in Pathology and Clinical Biochemistry. She later moved into education, qualified as a teacher in Essex and has been involved in primary teaching now for over twenty years.
