The Quiet Compere

Open air theatre: Into the Light
Friday & Saturday, 7.45pm, Buckfast Abbey
Into the Light is a thought-provoking and beautifully written piece that will be performed at Buckfast Abbey from 7th -12th September by Unleashed Theatre Company. Based on St John’s Gospel, it follows a group of refugees fleeing from Eastern Europe in the late 1930s at the start of the outbreak of the Second World War, who as they travel tell the ‘greatest story’ on Earth. For Unleashed Theatre Company, this piece has real significance as it takes them right back to their roots. Adults £11, under 18s £9 (unreserved). Tickets from the Abbey Bookshop and Abbey Gift shop. Ocean Film Festival World Tour

Drink & Think 11 September

Artist Rosalie Schweiker will work with Spacex to imagine a future art institution.  Following on from many formal and informal discussions about the future of art institutions, Spacex is hosting a pub crawl in Exeter. Exeter Dissenters Graveyard open days
Saturday & Sunday, Bull Meadow Road, Exeter
The Dissenters Graveyard will be open to visitors between 11am and 4pm both days. Visitors will be able to see work in progress to reverse the ravages of time and vandalism and what more needs to be done, view a collapsed underground vault and the entrance to an intact underground vault,  inspect transcribed copies of many of the grave inscriptions and read short biographies of some of those buried there. Theatrical performance tours on the theme of Dissent in Exeter will terminate at the graveyard at approximately 12 noon and again at 3pm on Saturday 12th. www.edgt.org.uk

Exmouth Mussel Festival
Saturday, noon, Seafront (opposite Pavilion), Exmouth
Brand new event to Exmouth seafront showcasing the area’s excellent seafood and give you the opportunity to meet superb chefs and suppliers.  The Sand Sculpture Competition returns as part of the Festival and  Captain Jack Sparrow will be awarding prizes! There will also be kite flying/making, wild art and raft making on the beach and the Creation Station will be setting up fantastic arts and crafts sessions for kids. Exeter Youth Rugby Community Fun Day

The forgotten wartime wrecks lying off our shores

Cullompton services is currently home to a fascinating exhibition which looks to raise the profile of under-represented aspects of the First World War. The temporary display, which runs until December 18th, offers a great chance to view recovered artefacts and learn about some of the lesser-known, but compelling, stories of the Great War.
