Founder member, Julian Piper (a writer for guitarist magazine) has been a champion for local blues music for a very long time, he has gone to the other side of the pond and learnt from some actual blues greats.

The Junkyard Angels have been going since the 70's and used to have very successful shows at The Beer Engine in Newton St Cyres, many years ago, when it used to have live music.

The Blues House is a non-profit making monthly evening promoting blues music in Devon. Hosted by musician, Jeremy Way(singer/guitarist for mid Devon blues band, Far From the Delta), the evenings start with a house band (who's members kindly give up their time for free), followed by an open blues jam, where anyone can give it a go. It is based in Crediton, so it's fairly central for the whole of Devon, where most places are no further than an hour's drive, so hoping to reach out to the whole of Devon. Far From the Delta are a local blues rock band who have been going for about 5 years. There are other acts at this event before and after the Band, contact the New Inn for more details. Far From the Delta play covers and original tunes, Led Zeppelin, Cream, The Doors, Fleetwood Mac, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Son House, John Lee Hooker, plus others, are all artists they cover. Police and University join forces

A new research project will unite police and researchers to increase evidence-based knowledge, skills and problem solving approaches within policing.

The University of Exeter has secured nearly £250,000 from the Police Knowledge fund to foster stronger collaboration between the police force and researchers, and ensure practices are rooted in the best evidence of what is effective.

Male bluebirds persist and shout

Birds ‘shout’ to be heard over the noise produced by man-made activity, new research has shown.

The innovative study, led by an expert from the University of Exeter, looked at how bluebirds altered their songs in response to increases in nearby background noise caused, in many cases, by human activities such as traffic.

It found that the birds altered their songs immediately after noise levels intensified, making ‘real-time’ adjustments in order to produce songs that are both louder and lower-pitched. The results suggest that birds are able to perceive increases in noise...

Heavy rain and thunderstorms warning

The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for Devon.

Forecasters say heavy downpours and thunderstorms may affect eastern parts of the region.

More persistent and at times heavy rain will develop across Devon during today (Sunday), clearing northwards during the early afternoon.

The public should be aware that flooding may result from either short-period intense rainfall this evening, or more persistent heavy rain thereafter. This warning may be updated as further information becomes available.

Ukulele Orchestra returns to Exeter

One of the most popular acts ever to perform at Exeter Corn Exchange returns to the venue on Saturday 19 September.

Demand for tickets for the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain is always so high that the orchestra will performing twice on the same day with a 2pm matinee added to the usual evening show.

The Ukes, as they are affectionately known, have gained an international reputation for their shows featuring eight ukulele players performing everything from ‘Anarchy in the UK’ to ‘The Dambusters March’ and ‘Psycho Killer’ to ‘Yes Sir, I Can Boogie’.
