With its dense chromaticism, intricate counterpoint, and Wagnerian drive sweeping toward a great climax, Metamorphosen is a memorial to a type of music that had been abandoned long before 1945. With her spine tingling vocals you would be excused for thinking we had wrongly described Miss Gabrielle Aplin’s performance at The Great Hall on Monday night.
But rock she did, with her amazing cover of Miley Cyrus’ ‘ Wrecking Ball’ as well as performing many of her own songs with a rock twist.
As well as catering for rock lovers, Gabrielle did not dissapoint those that had come to see her perform her original classical style vocals belting out her gorgeous hit ‘ The Power of Love’ and many other songs from her ‘ English Rain’ album.
