Stage set for a very special gig in Exeter

Lovers of traditional music are in for a rare treat when a special concert at Exeter Northcott Theatre on 12 July brings together harmonica wizard Will Pound and his band, members of South West-based Wren Band and 25 young musicians from Devon.

Will, recognised as one of the finest harmonica players in the world and often to be heard on BBC Radio 2, will join Wren Band musicians and the children during the first half of the show before he and his band have the stage to themselves for the second half.

Over 70 musicians from Exeter School will be performing at St. Peter’s Church, Budleigh on Thursday 2 July at 7.30pm, with a feast of choral and instrumental music. Andrew Millington has been Director of Music at Exeter Cathedral since September 1999. He studied the organ at Worcester Cathedral before gaining an Organ Scholarship to Downing College, Cambridge. In 1975 he became Assistant Organist at Gloucester Cathedral and in 1983 he succeeded Philip Moore as Organist and Master of the Choristers at Guildford Cathedral. Organ350 Recital: Heinrich Wimmer (Germany)

Heinrich Wimmer was born in 1964 and studied with Prof. Klemens Schnorr at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Munich.

For over 20 years he has been organist at the church of St. Jacob to Burghausen, Salzach , where he initiated the construction of the church's Rieger organ.

He has given recitals across Europe and the Far East including all the major organ works of Johann Sebastian Bach, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Max Reger.

Nepal Earthquake charity relief concert

In an event organised by Exeter musician Luke Bliss-Thompson and his band Swarm, Exeter’s finest musicians have teamed up with Exeter Phoenix to put on a charity concert raising money for the victims of the Nepal earthquake.

Buildings have been flattened, communities shattered and lives torn apart. Dozens of aftershocks continue to hit the area, and people are sleeping in the open air from fear of further destruction. More than 6,000 people are reported to have died and thousands are feared to be trapped under rubble.

University choir to raise Cathedral roof

Exeter University’s top choir are busy rehearsing a lively programme ahead of a special concert at Exeter Cathedral next week.

The University Chapel Choir (made up of 20 of the campus’s best choral singers) will sing Bob Chilcott’s lively A Little Jazz Mass as part of a programme that includes familiar works by Parry and Stanford. The performance takes place in Exeter Cathedral on Saturday 30th May at 19.30

The choir's Organist and Director of Music is Michael Graham. Michael also directs Budleigh Salterton Male Voice Choir and Exeter College Choral Society and is the founder and Artistic Director of Exodus. He is a full time member of Exeter Cathedral Choir.
