Really Big Quiz is Biggest Ever!

Exeter’s 10th annual Really Big Quiz really did turn out to be the biggest ever, raising an impressive £5,981.90 for the Lord Mayor of Exeter’s charity, SOCOPS – the most ever raised at the event.

Organised by chartered accountancy firm Simpkins Edwards, this year with support from Tozers Solicitors, the quiz took place at the Corn Exchange in Exeter on Wednesday 8 May. More teams from local businesses entered than ever before, with a reserve list having to be started after the venue’s capacity of 70 teams was reached.

Dream-A-Way helped by local Freemasons

As part of an annual programme of charitable giving, Devonshire Freemasons have again distributed over £20,000 to 25 local charities and worthy causes. The donations were presented by the Provincial Grand Master of Devonshire, Right Worshipful Brother Ian Kingsbury, at the Exmouth Masonic Hall, Exmouth on Friday evening 10 May.

Stars shine at fun-filled walk for Hospiscare

More than 400 women from Exeter, Mid and East Devon gathered in Exmouth at the weekend wearing flashing bunny ears to enjoy a night out with the girls while walking 12k for Hospiscare.

The Starlight Walk is one of the charity’s biggest annual events and this year the women enjoyed a new route that took them along the seafront and out into the Exmouth Countryside.

The evening began at Exmouth Rugby Club where the women enjoyed a warm-up session given by a Zumba instructor, Debra from Zumba Exmouth, with players from the club joining in to show their support.

Devon County Council dress down for Hospiscare

More than £600 was presented to Hospiscare after a mufti day was held at Devon County Council recently.

Staff at County Hall ditched work wear and dressed down to raise £669 for the Devon-based charity which was presented to Hospiscare Corporate Fund Raiser John Arnold from Chairman of the Council Jerry Brook recently.

Hospiscare gives high-quality care and dedicated free-of-charge support to people who are terminally ill in Exeter, Mid and East Devon.

Exeter’s annual Really Big Quiz, organised by chartered accountancy firm Simpkins Edwards, is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and the Lord Mayor of Exeter is appealing for more teams to sign up and help support his charity.

The event, which is to be held on Wednesday 8 May at the Corn Exchange, is this year also being supported by Tozers Solicitors, which has been working alongside Simpkins Edwards and the Lord Mayor’s office to organise prizes for an auction and raffle to take place before the second half of the quiz. The Lord’s Taverners host a roaring evening

The Lord’s Taveners charity hosted a very special British Lions dinner on 17 April at Exeter University's Great Hall.

The evening was a massive success with star guest speaker Warren Gatland, the British Lions Manager for the forthcoming tour to Australia, supported by former Lions and rugby giants Will Greenwood, Paul Ackford and Scott Quinnell.

Tales of skill, and skulduggery mainly in the scrum, entertained a full house of 400 guests and raised over £11,000 for the charity.

Exeter Community Bikes (ECB) is a Project that is just starting in Exeter. It aims to provide unemployed people with the skills, confidence and knowledge to recycle and recondition unwanted and abandoned bicycles and in the process reduce landfill, encourage more environmental awareness and enhance our community’s health and well-being.
