The UK’s leading marine charity, the Marine Conservation Society (MCS) and supermarket, Waitrose, have joined forces to create a new series of beach and river clean events to get more people than ever before cleaning and recording litter from England’s beaches and rivers.

Support from Waitrose will help MCS put on more clean-ups and mobilise the public in the fight back against the rising tide of plastic litter on our beaches. The supermarket is donating £500,000 from its carrier bag funds to MCS who will organise around 1,000 beach and river clean-ups during 2017/18.

Have your say on East Devon District Council’s consultation on new Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs) to encourage responsible dog ownership and a ban on feeding seagulls

For many years a number of Dog Control Orders have been in place in East Devon. These are legal controls, which exist to encourage responsible dog ownership in East Devon. At the moment:

• Dogs aren't allowed in some play parks and public gardens. • You must pick up your dog's poo in all public places. • Dogs aren't allowed on some beaches between 1 May and 30 September. • Dogs must be kept on leads in...

Council replenishes Sidmouth’s East Beach with storm shingle deposits

Around 600 tons of shingle, which Storm Angus deposited at School Weir on the River Sid in Sidmouth, is being redistributed by East Devon District Council across the beach at the eastern end of Sidmouth, adjacent to the fishermen’s area, courtesy of the Environment Agency (EA), which is responsible for the weir.

Situated at the southern end of the Byes, School Weir helps protect Sidmouth from flooding via the River Sid and the sediment that has accrued there would otherwise have been deposited on Sidmouth’s beach around the mouth of the River Sid.

Historically, School Weir’...

Break Away at Ladram Bay

I had always been a little dubious about holiday parks, imagining them to be over-crowded, noisy, with the accommodation being basic and disappointing but, I have to say that after a stay at Ladram Bay Holiday Park, I am converted!

They are a great place to stay with children and ensure there is something to do whatever the weather. The other great thing is that you feel safe not to have your eyes on your children every second. Living just outside Exeter too, it seemed a little strange to be staying away so close to home. However, this was the beauty of the location - no queues on...
