The ever-popular deckchairs will be returning to Sidmouth seafront this week says East Devon District Council.

Following the surrender of the deckchair concession by the previous operator, the council’s property services team undertook a marketing exercise which attracted interest from a number of parties. The legal formalities have now been completed and the deckchairs will return to the seafront for the remainder of the 2017 season as well as the 2018 and 2019 seasons.

Local man Adam Davis will be operating the concession and he hopes that his local knowledge and passion for the area will ensure the deckchairs remain an important part of the Sidmouth visitor experience.

The deckchairs will be available (weather permitting) along the esplanade and in Connaught Gardens until the end of September and from 1 April to 30 September in the following two seasons.

Councillor Philip Skinner, East Devon District Council’s portfolio holder for economy, said: “The deckchairs have been a feature on the seafront and in Connaught Gardens for many years and are a part of the Sidmouth experience for many visitors. I am pleased that we have been able to secure a new operator and hope this three season agreement will secure their continued presence.”
