Less than a year after launching, Devon-based independent online wine and spirit merchant, Wickhams has been included in the Decanter Retailer Awards 2021 shortlist, in not just one but two categories. Launched in November 2020, new start-up Wickhams is included in the fiercely contested ‘Newcomer of the Year’ and ‘England & Wales Specialist’ category shortlists. The Wilbur & Niso Smith Foundation is delighted to announce that the winner of the 2021 Wilbur Smith Adventure Writing Prize, Best Published Novel, is Rachel Joyce for Miss Benson’s Beetle (Doubleday).

Pregnant women are being reassured by the NHS in Devon that having the COVID-19 vaccination is the best and safest way to protect them and their baby from the serious complications that can be caused by the virus.

Pregnant women with COVID-19 have a higher risk of intensive care admission than women of the same age who are not pregnant.

The risk of serious complications is low but a recent study of more than 340,000 births in England by the National Maternal and Perinatal Outcomes Audit found:

A team of cyclists will embark on their very own Tour de Devon this week to raise money for FORCE Cancer Charity.

John Heathershaw from Exeter (pictured second left above) set himself the challenge of a coast-to-coast ride to celebrate five years of being cancer clear.

FORCE and RD&E mark prostate cancer treatment milestone

FORCE Cancer Charity and the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital’s Radiotherapy Department have celebrated a milestone in the treatment of prostate cancer.

The hospital has treated its 1,000th patient with high dose-rate brachytherapy, using equipment bought by FORCE.

Bill Collings received his therapy at the RD&E’s Wonford unit.

The treatment is also known as HDR brachytherapy or temporary brachytherapy.
