A new partnership from Co-op and Cruse Bereavement Support is aiming to help people talk about death and grief more openly, as the nation continues to emerge from the devastating effects of the Coronavirus pandemic.

YouGov research* out today reveals that four in ten adults living in the South West (48%) who have not experienced a bereavement admit to being unprepared in knowing how to help a bereaved friend or relative and almost a fifth (17%) have actively gone out of their way to avoid someone who is grieving because they don’t know what to say to them.

STAFF at The Swan in Bampton are celebrating this week after being named for the sixth year running as one of the top 50 gastropubs in the country (January 2022).

The multi-award-winning mid-Devon pub polled in at number 25 in the 2022 ‘Estrella Damm’ Top 50 Gastropub Awards.

Food Charity appeals for retired volunteers

FoodCycle , the charity that aims to make food poverty, loneliness and food waste a thing of the past for every community, is in urgent need of volunteers. This month, FoodCycle will invest in a national recruitment campaign to try to entice more people to join them.

While volunteer roles are open to anyone who has some time to spare, the current drive will particularly target retired members of the community.

But with most falling by the wayside within seven weeks, a Devon college is hoping it can help buck the trend well into 2022.

A new business support programme has been launched offering a range of business training and support services for the self-employed and small to medium size enterprises (SMEs) in Devon, Plymouth, Somerset and Torbay.

Up to 600 businesses will be supported through the Heart of the South West Growth Hub’s new programme – Thrive.

A Dartmoor woodland has been given a tidy-up thanks to a team of dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers. Working with Dartmoor National Park’s Rangers Ella Briens and Ethan Parsons and Dartmoor Headwaters Project Officer Kerry Smith, the group spent a Sunday morning removing tree guards from a native woodland in the Dean Burn valley near Buckfastleigh.
